Would recommend to any new vistors to stop here first and climb up the 88 steps to the top of the lighthouse. The view from the top of the lighthouse is amazing.

Funny thing about this lighthouse. It is not on the shore. What's up with that? Viewable on one of the 'off and on" tours. You can get "off" and tour the lighthouse if you desire. Time did not permit us to visit this attraction, but if you are a "lighthouse" person, I suggest you make the time because lighthouses are always intriguing places.

My wife and I enjoyed both the lighthouse and the accompanying museum.

The trip to the top of the lighthouse can seem overwhelming to some, but it is imminently doable. There are landings to take a rest, if you need, on the way up. (My wife was seven months pregnant when we went, and she had no trouble.) the view from the top is spectacular and offers a full panorama of Key West.

We also enjoyed the museum and the window that it offered into the lives of the lighthouse keepers and their families, particularly the keepers out on the Dry Tortugas.

When you climb the stairs you've done your sport for today. Lot of fun and really a practical, sporty thing to do. For all of you who need to loose some weight do it at least twice :-). Great fun, best sight over Key west and somehow also a thrill because the stairway is narrow and steap and the balcony around the ligthhouse on top is also narrow and it looks and feels like an adventure to step out on it. The lightkeepers house shows a lot of history in pictures, films and audio testimonials. History is thrilling and teaching. Go for it.

Best,
Rolf

The stairs to e top aren't for the faint hearted,.......just don't look down. The view from the top was nice but not worth the admission fee really!
