“Noisy with little sense of Customer Service”
Reviewed January 31, 2007

We booked a "deluxe" king room for 3 nights the end of January. The room was on the second floor of a larger building, sharing a balcony with the room next door. We could hear the noise of the parking lot and US 1 most of the night. The windows were only covered with half of a white curtain set (no shades). However, the material didn't cover the entire window and we were constantly adjusting, trying to get some privacy and shut out some of the parking/road light. When we tried to have coffee on the balcony the next morning, the couple in the room next door was in plain sight. Needless to say, we moved back into our room. I asked to be placed in another room for the rest of our stay, I was rudely told that "simply" wasn't possible.

The bathroom had one glass shelf that was bent and hanging down over the sink. So all our personal items had to be stored on the floor. They really need somewhere to place bathroom items. The 2 towels were cheap and thread-bare. They did provide 2 additional "spa/pool" towels that we used for bathing.

The breakfast of frozen bagels, apples, (really bad) coffee and juice was served by the pool, but not available until 8:30. The pool was a wonderful setting, except when the weather turned cold. But the inadequate/cold breakfast gave us an excuse to go to Blue Heaven and Pepe's for fantastic meals!

Parking was on a first-come basis and there were not enough spots for all the guests. So when we went to Pine Key for the day, we were unable to find parking when we returned at 4pm.

I was impressed with the cleanliness of the room and the comfort of the bed. The room also had a small table with two rattan chairs, a painted table for coffee, 2 bed-side tables, and a 3 drawer rattan dresser.

We won't stay here again. For $233 a night, I expected more and have received more at other Key West places.

We weren't sure what to expect when we booked the Key Lime Inn, since we'd never been to Key West before, but after reading reviews on Trip Advisor, we felt that we had made a good choice. And, we had! The inn (which happened to be the 1st motel in Key West) put us into a cottage room. It was newly remodeled and modern, with a flat screen TV, a small patio with table and chairs, and included a free continental breakfast by the pool.

The inn was right on Hwy. 1, and was only a couple of blocks from Duval St. (the main shopping/eating street), so was very convenient. (Catholic Church right across street, too.)

Appreciated having an iron and ironing board, and safe in the room. The staff was very prompt when we asked for additional pillows.

We would definitely stay there again, and would recommend it to anyone.

  • Liked — convenience, cute cottage, nicely remodeled
  • Disliked — Room was a little dark because shutters weren't set up to let in light

We just returned from a FABULOUS trip to Key West. We spent our 6 night stay at the Key Lime Inn on Truman Avenue. The staff was friendly, very accommodating, and helpful. Our room was cheerful, bright, a good size, and right off the deck to the pool. The pool was a good size and the pool area was very comfortable. The pool was situated in the front and the cluster of rooms were located behind it to give the feeling of being in your own little world. On site parking was a hugh plus to us. The location was great, not far from Duval Street.
The complimentary breakfast every morning between 8:30-10:30 was certainly sufficient. It consisted of muffins, bagel, english muffins, danish, yogurt, coffee and orange juice.
Yes the roosters are around and they do "cock-a-doodle-do," but it wasn't every morning that we heard them. They are all over Key West, on Duval Street, in Mallory Square, everywhere. So if you don't want the roosters, then you don't belong in Key West.
Would we go back to Key West....in a moment's notice. Would we stay at the Key Lime Inn again.....in a heartbeat!

Lovely place in Key West. We stayed here 2 nights in August 2006 during a Florida round trip. We could park our car on the properties parking ground. That was a big plus. We had a spacious clean room in the large building. The room had a big terrace where we could sit at night and enjoy a cold beer. The breakfast was very good.
We would definately stay here again.

We stayed three nites at the Key Lime Inn in December 2006. We had actually booked at room at a much more expensive place (the Marquesa) but they canceled our reservation on us! Fortunately I discovered this before arriving in Key West and began searching for another property while negotiating with the Marquesa to resolve the cancellation. After reading the reviews of the Key Lime Inn I decided to save myself some money and stay at the Key Lime instead of insisting that the Marquesa find a room for us. Anyway....I wish I had searched further. The grounds of the Key Lime are pleasant - we enjoyed the pool area but the room was lacking. The sheets and towels were poor quality and the room was charmless, bathroom just adequate. Our room had an outdoor terrace of sorts but it was a very small fence enclosed area of scrubby ground - looked like a place you might keep a dog, not a pleasant outdoor sitting area! We were not in one of the small houses but in the large building, maybe the other rooms were nicer (tho we paid for a deluxe room with a king sized bed). There was a loud drip outside our room that was quite annoying all night long - and of course the roosters but that's Key West. I thought there might be some street noise but that was not the case. The location is pretty much mid island - quite a walk to Mallory Square but convenient to other restaurants not so close to Duval Street.

Even tho we were not very happy with the hotel we enjoyed our time in Key West. We rented bikes one day - it is delightful to ride around, especially out towards the beach and in the neighborhoods in that area. We had some good food - near the Key Lime is Seven Fish, wonderful fish (can't remember what kind) with curry sauce. Mango's was pleasant outdoor dining, Ciboney is also near the hotel and had good Cuban food. Ate at a pricey Italian restaurant one night, I think Antonio's, didn't care too much for that.

The staff at the Key Lime were pleasant enough - I wished I had liked it more. A nice pool area is important to us, as I was walking around I saw more properties with pools than I had expected - if we go again I will look for a different hotel to stay at.

OK - picked this place based on location and great reviews. It was really very mediocre.
Positives:
1) Location
2) Cute on the outside and nice pool & courtyard

Negatives:
1) Service was scant and indifferent - very "institutional" and not "inn-like" at all. Have had better service in Super 8 or Econolodge
2) Room was moldy/dank. No visible dirt or mold. Room was soooo bare bones - uncomfortable bed, cheap linens and pillows, cheap, thin towels.
3) the roosters started crowing outside our door at 3AM!!! and never shut up. Bring ear plugs.
4) Breakfast was horrible: terrible coffee, wonderbread, store-bought pastries, apples (no bananas or oranges), no peanut butter----totally bare bones. We ditched it and went out for a nice breaky instead. Again, I've had better at road-side chain motels. I expect more from an historic inn.

Basically, save your $$ and stay at a local chain hotel on the outskirts. Our hotel (Park Central) in Miami Beach was cheaper and FAR, FAR better w.r.t. the details that matter.

  • Liked — Cute historic property
  • Disliked — Moldy rooms
  • Tips/Secrets — Don't stay here!
