I can't remember the last time i took a vacation that was quite so "relaxing". Traveling with young children, I usually feel like I need another vacation right after i get back from vacation. The Villas (522 Margaret St.) was absolutely the key to a vacation that i will not soon forget. The Villas is actually a compound of 3 small homes/cottages staged around a private swimming pool. I stayed in the Sailor's Quarters -- 2 bedrooms, 2 full baths, sleeper sofa, full kitchen, washer/dryer (awesome) and, did I mention, private swimming pool. it slept us 5 comfortably, not that my kids slept at all because of the private swimming pool. Anyway, the compound was convenient (walking distance) to everything in Old Town, including dining, bakery, coffee, marina, Duval Street, Episcopal Church, mojitos and key lime pie. A thoroughly enjoyable vacation from beginning to end.

This place is so very, very Key West. Family was quartered in quaint old houses with lush vegetation on the outside, clean and renovated inside. They surrounded the pool which was clean and shortly full of grandchildren. The tropical landscaping continued to patio/pool area. It was a short walk to the harbor and/or Duval Street for the grownups and teens, but just far enough into an old residential section to be quiet at nigtht. The kitchen was surprisingly large and well equipped and a grocery store was near by. We could easily walk to Mallory Square where a crowd gathers every evening to watch the sunset and applaud as the sun disappears. The beach is not withing easy walking distance, but the boats that take you to snorkle on a reef or watch the sunset close up definitely are. The Keys are not noted for beaches anyway. It was a great experience for all of the family.

We just got back from a perfectly wonderful family reunion in Key West. We rented the Captain's House and Sailor's Quarters for 5 nights and couldn't have been happier. The kids were in the pool from sunup to sundown! There was a lot of space for our two large families and the full kitchen was well-supplied. We loved the convenience to Duval Street and also to the boat charters and restaurants off Caroline Street. We will definitely be returning to Villas Key West!

Upon arrival we realized this place looked nothing likr the pictures on web site. The Captains quarters were not clean and ready for guest. The sailors quarters were just as bad. We went shopping for our family we had 14 staying for a week using both houses. After unloading groceries we noticed many ants so we tried to place everything up away from counters just to wake up and find ants in everything. It rained the first night and we woke up to puddles of water every where. The second day the power was turned off due to delienquent power bill. Pool was green due to broken filter very dirty. Complained with rental office just to find out he owns the cottage. A $5000 a week rental go else where lots of better choices in Key West.

Over 1,000 people have passed through the Captain's House and Sailor's Quarters before the arrival of this party. The previous guests have given the places 5 star reviews So it's 1,000 to one and the credibility of this insincere review should be judged accordingly. This party arrived seeking money back. They presented us with a 3 page letter claiming that numerous members of their party had fallen wanting money for their "accidents." (They drank from morning to night. If they fell, it was their problem.) They claimed the rugs were old. (The rugs were replaced 3 weeks prior to their arrival as can be proved by receipts). The pool incident occurred because someone vandalized the pool filter by poking holes in it. The pool was back in operation in 12 hours. after the vandalism was discovered. There were 2 small leaks (not "leaks everywhere") which were caused by an unprecedented downpour and were handled by folding beach towels to catch the drip.

Most rooms face the pool. We had three familys in our group and it was so intimate and perfect. The pool and hot tub were very clean and the rooms were clean. The one bedroom villas are tiny but they are clean. We also had one of the two bedroom villas and it was perfect. GREAT kitchen and walking distance to the grocery store. The location is perfect for walking to shops and restaurants and devaul st. The main drag. However it wasn't walking distance from any of the good beaches. we could walk to the best locations on the island for watching the sunset. We had small children with us and I am not sure I would recommend to parents of small children as the pool area is pretty small and the pool is VERY deep and easy for kids to fall into if not watched carefully. however it still was a wonderful stay even with having to be a tad more diligent about watching the kids.

we stayed Monday - Thursday, and had a great time. This location is almost a block off of Duval (the strip) and is close enough to run out to get a quick snack but far enough away to be peaceful and cozy. We didn't move the rental car from the time we arrived to the time we left. Make sure to get the parking from Villas because there is very little free parking and their spots are literally right in front of the building. Staff was friendly and answered plenty of questions about the local attractions. We rented a scooter one day and had a blast with it. I'd suggest renting a scooter on a back street as the price will go down drastically as you go further away from Duval. We will definitely be staying at Villas again though.

Room Tip: pool and spa are only about 20 feet from your door!
