Owner description: A very unusual cemetery - several graves have humorous epitaphs (e.g., "I told you I was sick").

“Quirky”
Reviewed November 14, 2012

A 'fun' place for those into graveyard tours. The stone readings are quirky such as "I told you I was sick". Also a great area dedicatef for sailors who died aboard the USS Maine - which started the Spanish-American War.

“Above ground burials”
Reviewed November 10, 2012

It was interesting to learn that Key West is atop a coral reef so graves cannot be dug. Like New Orleans, graves sit on top of the ground. Interesting to see.

“You have to visit the Maine Memorial”
Reviewed November 9, 2012

Many of the sailors killed when the battleship Maine was blown up in Havana, the start of the Spanish-American War, were brought to Key West and buried here. Strolling through the cemetery and reading the names and dates can be thought provoking. It's a pleasant experience, but don't be scared by the iguanas. They like to hang around in the cemetery, but they avoid getting too close to people.

“Very funky and fun”
Reviewed November 7, 2012

There are a lot of very interesting things to see in the cemetary including catchy epitaphs on headstones, a section for cuban heros, a section for the sailors from the Maine sinking, and graves stacked like apartment buildings. It almost looks like a Hollywood set.
