Traveled to the fort and really enjoyed our visit. Incredible history. The beach area is very nice. A great family activity.
This is a great state park for history buffs and beach goers. The Fort is very interesting and can be seen by yourself by reading the signage. There is also a daily ranger talk at 11 a.m. Next to the fort is probably the best beach in Key West. Great for swimming, sunning, picnicking, jogging, walking or just hanging out. Entrance fee is $8 per car. Can also bike in or walk in and pay a small fee.
Ft Zach, as it's known to the locals, is the place for a real Key West beach experience. Swim in water that's actually over your head and explore the offshore rocks for a view of life below the surface. BBQ & picnic in the pines while you marvel at the Carribbean where the Atlantic meets the Gulf of Mexico
For a few bucks, you can get a glorious view of the sunset in Key West. The beach is a great place to hang out as well.
This is our favorite place to hang out if we just want to relax and enjoy the beach and water. We arrived around 3:30 and the line to get through gate was long. Guessing many were arriving for the sunset. It was Christmas day so imagine staff to take money at gate was limited. The whole entry area has been updated since we were there 6 years ago. We finally got in and there was plenty of room on the beach. Not crowded by any stretch and that's one reason we like it. The water was a little cool this time of year. we are spoiled from coming in September when its very warm. Being a state park they do have some basic rules and along with the small entry fee which also helps keep the rif-raf out. It is a very relaxing beach. There are many areas to explore but we just like to go an relax. Ft Zachery is always a must do when we visit Key west and never disappoints.
