“Best beach in the area”
Reviewed February 3, 2014

We toured the fort.... the ranger told us that we would have a guided tour.. the tour guide never showed up..never saw him...was disappointed in that. we enjoyed walking around by ourselves reading the map. Went to the beach twice...very rocky...would advise wearing water sandals. one of the best beach/ parks... you can rent chairs, umbrellas, and snorkeling equipment. We brought food and had a cookout. Outdoor showers, restrooms.

“Time at the Beach & Explore the Fort”
Reviewed February 2, 2014

We rented bikes one day, as many tourists do, picked up Cuban sandwichs from the deli & went to the State Park. It's a long walk in if you're not riding! Enough bike racks to lock up, a concession stand with bathrooms, also chair & umbrella rental if you want---$30 for 2 lounge chairs & an umbrella for the day. Quite a few picnic tables in shady areas too. We spent just a couple hours. View and breeze is heavenly. Beach is crushed shells & rock, some sand. It IS Key West after all! Enjoyed a daquiri up at the concession stand. Afterwards, we stopped at the fort, which is the next entrance. Very interesting to see, lots of old cannons & cannon balls, and you can go up and walk around--nice view!

“Beautiful but not the best beach”
Reviewed February 1, 2014

Having never been here during previous trips to Key West, we decided to check this beach out as it was walking distance from our rental. The walk is a good 15 minutes from the where the the Truman Annex ends and the entrance to the park starts. For $2.50 it's a pretty good deal. It is a beautiful park but the beach is nothing special as it is very coral-ly. Sadly the day we went the water was really rough so we didn't really go in. We did check out the fort and while it wasn't the most interesting fort I've ever checked out, we found this amazing iguana that was huge hanging out in a window, sunning himself. We were able to hang out for 5 minutes or so and get many pictures which the iguana didn't seem to mind. This was the highlight of our visit. I would go and check out this beach again in hopes of calmer weather next time I visit, though I believe Smathers beach is much nicer.

“Great beach but the secrets out”
Reviewed February 1, 2014 via mobile

Nicest beach in Key West and well worth the $2.50 entry fee. You can explore Fort Zachary on your own or attend the daily talk. If you get there early it's quiet but from 11.30 onwards it got really busy. You can hire sun loungers and umbrellas for $35 for two ($5 deposit is refunded if you return them by 4.45pm) I recommend you take or hire snorkelling gear as there were plenty to see in the shallow waters - parrot fish, barracuda, Sargent major fish. Picnic area, toilets and a nice cafe are all nearby. The only downside was the boat traffic, cruise liners come into port right next to it and the jet ski tours frequently pass by. All in all a nice place to spend the day.
