Wife and i loved the park itself but the nasty attitude by the 'umbrella rental' guy was not what we would have expected - you can't put your towel there - those people have the space around the umbrella...what??

We wandered around the old fort before meandering down to the beach and sitting and relaxing for a while. It made for a nice afternoon. The top of the fort has some great views.

For the information of everybody, Key West is not famous for beaches. But if your looking for one, this is the right spot for you, this is a state park so it is well manage and kept clean. There's an entrance fee and parking spaces to begin with. There are lounging chairs for rent. And also a good spot for sunset.

I thought it needed more information made available around the Fort, as to what the rooms and installations were used for! Also,as far as I could find, no explanation(for overseas visitors especially), why the Flag only had 34 stars on it!

It is a very short walk around the fort, but well worth it. it is being repaired and its very interesting to see how live would have been like all those years before.
