Beautiful water. However, the beach is very rocky. Make sure you have something for your feet that you can wear in the water. I like that it's off the beaten path a bit and they do charge a slight admission fee, keeps it from being too crowded. Rode our bikes from old town and enjoyed a few hours laying in the sun.

Not too many choices of beaches in KW. This one is nice but is filled with shells towards the water. The water is nicer than the other beach we visited in KW (can't remember which one as it was years ago). I would recommend bringing water socks/shoe-ware as it was a bit treacherous to get into the water.
We brought our own lunch in to eat on the beach. There is a cafe there as well that appeared to offer a variety of options. There was also a lot of picnic tables/benches around.
There was also plenty of space to lock your bike as well.
We didn't bring chairs with us but we did bring towels. You can rent lounge chairs and umbrellas once you get there. In my opinion, it was a bit pricey for the rentals - $30 for 2 chairs and an umbrella. If you do decide to rent, bring cash.

Very interesting old fort. Still in moderately good shape. amazing views from on top of the walls. ($2.50 walking admittance per person was very reasonable for access to the park) The fort could have used a few more signs to give better history of the building and history of the fights at the fort. Beach was nice but small. Nice facilities throughout and clean. Well kept. Rangers at gate were very friendly and helpful to get you though the park. A good thing to go see in Key West.

We came here for a beach day and it is really a pretty area. But....The rocks are BRUTAL here. I mean brutal. Not a little rocky. Completely rocky where you could cut your foot or sprain an ankle. Water shoes or sturdy flip flops are a must. But the water was delightful and the views were lovely. Great area for picnicking as well. Tons of shady areas for having a nice lunch. And it's a nice walk from where we stayed in Old Town. We saw lots of folks biking down or riding scooters.

We took bikes up to the State Park and had an amazing time. We slowly walked around the grounds, had a picnic, and enjoyed the Fort. I highly recommend it for a nice relaxing afternoon.
