Owner description: Historic site of a Civil War-era fort, currently being excavated; also has a beautiful beach for swimming and snorkeling.

We spent a few days visiting and sunbathing on the beach here. The facilities were well maintained, and the snack shop a welcome watering hole - the drinks are not badly priced to say you are on the beach and they have a captive audience - $2.50 for a large coke - snacks okay as well, and all in all a great spot with a nice natural looking beach for a lazy day enjoying the sunshine. We did think the umbrellas were pricey - $30 for 2 loungers and an umbrella for the day - but plenty of shade if you don't want to hire one - and there was a lovely breeze most days we visited. The Fort was well worth a visit, look out for the giant lizards!

This Fort is nice and clean my only problem was that the dogs could run with out anybody supervision everywhere on the beach, wet, over the towels, people, children and non of the staff says anything next to the sign "DOGS ARE PROHIBITED ON THE BEACH"

We spent some time checking out the fort this trip, which was really interesting. The beach is beautiful. The picnic area is attractive and well maintained, and the restrooms are clean. We skipped the Mallory Square sunset one evening and watched from the quiet of the park. Well worth the small entrance fee.

The Fort is not in great shape and there is not a lot left to it. However, the cost is $2.50 pp to walk into the park, so for the money its a decent site to visit. It doesn't take long to see the fort, about 20 minutes or so. However, you can visit the beaches, have a picnic, etc. so it can be a nice day.

Would have preferred to have either a guided tour or a brochure as I didn't learn as much as I would have liked. Having said that, we didn't have lots of time so our quick tour worked out alright for us.
