“Beach”
Reviewed November 8, 2011

we tried this beach one day, not expecting much from previous beach reviews in Key West. Have to say, not a bad place you have to pay $8.00, so what, but there is a very nice concession stand with food, drinks and beverages, clean rest rooms, and outdoor showers, the beach itself was clean and the water has some nice color to it. beach is long and can be It is a bit rocky (coral), but once you get about 10 feet out into the water the bottom is sandy. The only con is they rip you off if you want to rent chairs and an umbrella, I think we paid $45 for 4 chairs and an umbrella, overall a pleasant surpise for a beach in key west

“VERY rocky&rough! thought Smathers beach was better”
Reviewed November 5, 2011

Not only was the ground rocky (had been forewarned) but your legs were continually pelted by rocks/pebbles while standing in the water. perhaps the waves were rougher than usual but it was not pleasant. Did not enjoy this beach at all. But might be worth the price of admission if you enjoy history and walking trails and the picnic area. But don't go for the water & beach experience. I thought Smathers beach was better for the water experience.

“Great beach to visit”
Reviewed November 5, 2011

This is by far the best beach in Key West but it also has an old fort to explore. There are some nice ocean views from the top. You can also snorkel at the rock formations off the beach.
