Not only was the ground rocky (had been forewarned) but your legs were continually pelted by rocks/pebbles while standing in the water. perhaps the waves were rougher than usual but it was not pleasant. Did not enjoy this beach at all. But might be worth the price of admission if you enjoy history and walking trails and the picnic area. But don't go for the water & beach experience. I thought Smathers beach was better for the water experience.

I love this place! Wish we found it sooner. It has an awesome beach, you can rent chairs and umbrellas there. Great to go snorkeling. Awesome place to watch the sunset.

This is by far the best beach in Key West but it also has an old fort to explore. There are some nice ocean views from the top. You can also snorkel at the rock formations off the beach.

Spent the day at the beach snorkelling and sun bathing, then when we needed a break we explored the fort
