“Nice, relaxing and rocky”
Reviewed August 23, 2011

Attended this beach because it seemed to be the best reviewed. This is a state park so there is a small fee to enter but well worth it. It is really nice and relaxing. They offer chair and umbrella rentals along the sand as well as a convenient snack bar. The beach also has picnic tables for you to bring your own food. There is a bit of a walk to reach the beach from the town, ideally you'd want to ride a bike if not drive. They have clean restrooms and many showers. The only bad thing is that there is a lot of rocks right before you enter the water. This makes entering and exiting the water very uncomfortable. I would recommend water shoes. The rocks are the only thing stopping the beach from getting a 5 rating.

“snorkeling”
Reviewed August 22, 2011

we went snorkeling here. it was fun and the water was clear and beautiful. i knew before we went the beach was rocky, and they were right. it was mostly gravel and hard to walk on.. but the water made up for it. bad weather was coming in, so we didnt get to stay for a sunset. maybe next time!

“Nice snorkeling”
Reviewed August 22, 2011

I enjoyed walking the fort and the views from the top. The beach itself has a lot of shade and great picnic areas. The swimming is ok, the beach is not a white sand tropical oasis because Key West just doesn't have these kinds of beaches, but it does have some pretty good snorkeling right of the sand! there are some rock formations near the sand in shallow waters that had many fish. This is good for people who may not want to do open ocean snorkeling or just want to try it out. Im sure its great for kids too. I have been snorkeling many times and still had a great time!

“Defintely a hidden gem”
Reviewed August 20, 2011

We almost did not go to this park. We were so glad we did, the beach was beautiful. We snorkled right there (first time) and the water was beautiful. It turns out this place is better to see the sunset than Mallory Square. they have TONS of picnic tables and a store with concessions and stuff like masks and shoes TIP: BRING WET SHOES, to get down into the water its "corally" I bought them there. Bring a mask theirs are $20. For $8 for a car load you cannot go wrong here, its the best beach in Key West. We spent a whole day here!!
