“Not a smell lots of seaweed!!”
Reviewed October 15, 2012

The beach was coarse sand great parking(a plus), but a ton of seaweed. In order to get past it you would have to go three feet out--- too far!!

“Not Smelly”
Reviewed October 11, 2012

We went to Smathers Beach and found it quite nice. There was no seagrass in the water and only a bit washed up on the tide line. No one was there, the water was warm, but if you are expecting soft fine sand this was a bit coarse. Parking was free and the beach did have wheelchair parking. Unlike most keys beaches this one didn't stink.

“Shouldn't swim here”
Reviewed September 9, 2012

All the locals warned us to not swim at Smathers Beach. They said during the summer months and warmer water temperatures, there is a bacteria problem. I guess it should be obvious with the terrible smell coming from it.

“Nice location”
Reviewed September 5, 2012

Smathers has a nice location with easy access and not as crowded as other neighboring spots. However, on our visit it was a bit of a smell in the air!
