A neat little oasis that belies its surrounds - boulevards, malls, and construction - and somehow delivers a tropical feel in lush surrounds.

Decent sized and fittingly decorated rooms, nice pool areas, friendly and helpful staff, and a great little beach area for the outer-lying downstairs rooms.

All this in an easy 5 minute drive into the centre of Key West.

I'd return next time.

Room Tip: Definitely "beach front"

This hotel is a ways from downtown Key West, but makes up for it by creating its own little relaxed tropical environment. Loved the bright "parrot" color scheme, and the rooms were spacious and clean. As soon as you leave the grounds, you're in strip-mall land until you get downtown, which is best done by renting bikes. You can rent bikes right from the resort, but at a premium price compared to the other rental places. Mind you, if you've booked this place, budget prices may not be an issue for you because it's a little spendy. If you care about the environment enough to want to spare daily towel replacement and soap replacement, you have to ask the maids to leave things alone. Breakfast by the pool is good ... nice menu.

Room Tip: The villas are very cozy and you don't hear road noise.

We spent the week between Christmas and New Year's at Parrot Key. It was a simply fabulous experience. The staff was friendly and gracious from the first time I phoned to the moment we checked out. I cannot begin to describe how lush and gorgeous the grounds are, with fantastic tropical plants, gently waving palms, and the pristine white wooden buildings. There is a team of friendly gardeners who work non-stop, and they do a truly wonderful job.
Our two bedroom waterfront suite (38B) was EXACTLY like the photos, spacious, airy, squeaky-clean, super-comfortable. We had no problems with neighbours, ever, and the resort was filled to capacity. Yes, room cleaning is latish (afternoon), but we were always out when they came by.
The resort is on the water but, as is so common in the Keys in general, mangroves grow along the shore so there is no real beach on the premises. However, there are four pools (all very small, but very, very beautiful). The resort provides pool towels, which can be changed on request.
We were travelling with our 14-yr old son, who was not really interested in simply lounging by a pool, so we rented bikes for the week (very reasonable rates, rental is on-site) and hit a different beach every day. Key West is very small, so you can get everywhere by bike. When we didn't feel like biking, we took the car, and even though it was New Year's and the entire island was booked, we always found street parking, even downtown on New Year's Eve! One night we ordered takeout from the mall across the street and watched a DVD on the flat-screen TV in the cozy living room. We were travelling with three smartphones and three iPads and only rarely (say three extremely brief 2 min episodes over five days) had problems with slow wifi, so they must have addressed this issue.
The bar (really kind, caring staff) is slightly below par, but the par here is very, very high. Food is really quite limited, so we tended to eat elsewhere, usually on Duvall in the evening and on a boat/beach at lunch, but one evening we did have some truly fantastic nachos.
Do note: there are no sports facilities on the premises, with the important exception of water sports rentals (jet skis, paddle boards, etc) so no tennis courts and the like, but we played tennis every day, for free, on the lovely courts at Bayside Park, which is just a five-minute bike ride away. There is a fitness center, but just be aware that it is quite basic. We only used it a couple of times, however, as there were always so many other choices of activities on Key West.
As long as you do not need to walk from your room across the sand to the water, and do not need to have fine dining on the premises, I cannot recommend the Parrot Key Hotel more highly! We can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: Waterfront room, definitely! Those facing the bay (north) are absolutely fabulous.

Parrot Key is clean. For me a top priority. The staff is very friendly. Rutanya met us at the front desk this time and for our visit in July of 2013; felt like she was a long, lost friend. For us the location is great. We did not want to have to be in the busy part of the island the entire time. Parrot Key is a short bike ride from Old Town. We road back and forth several times a day/night. Sunset Watersports is on the grounds. We used their bicycles. Did not get behind the wheel of a car for 7 days! Curt, from Sunset Watersports, was the guide on our jet ski tour. What an awesome experience. Learning about the island from the view of the Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of Mexico. . . . Everyone we met was personable and gave us good recommendations of activities/restaurants. Visiting Key West from Snowy, fast paced Ohio and staying a little bit away from Duval Street, not driving a car, jet skiing. For us, the visit was perfect.

We loved our water view room at back of the property. The 2 bedroom suite was spacious and comfortable. Our room was very quiet and the bed super comfortable. We sat out on the balcony ever morning with our coffee and enjoyed the view. The restaurant on property was average and closed too early. We only ate breakfast there and a few snacks though.

The property itself is not in a very resort like area with a Walgreens next door and some crummy strip malls across the street, but once you enter the property, you feel like you have entered a lovely tropical resort. The several pools each feel like secluded little tropical courtyards. I think that our suite at the back of the property, on the water helped it feel like a resort. I can imagine that some of the rooms along the drug store had a different feel.

Our rooms were not cleaned until very late afternoon when we were trying to get ready to go out to dinner, so several times we had to just get supplies and ask them not to clean the room. They appeared to be understaffed.

The location was not great but we knew that and accepted it because of the good value for the two bedroom suite. We didn't mind the taxis, because again, we saved a lot for two bedrooms, however, at times we got frustrated with waiting for cabs especially when there were so many people ahead of us. Because of the cab situation, we are staying in the heart of key west when we return this spring. We just didn't want to hassle with coordinating cabs for the four of us. Then again, we are paying double for two rooms for that convenience.

We had a good feeling about Parrot Key the minute we were greeted by the desk clerk, Orianna (sp?). She was helpful, friendly and had a great sense of humor. We were on a roll... Our accommodation was lovely; well decorated and comfortable. The grounds are beautifully landscaped and the 4 nicely sized pools provided comfortable and intimate places to swim, read and relax. We had a garden view room and enjoyed sitting on our spacious deck at cocktail time. There are rooms that look out over the water and beach that I am sure are lovely also.
The hotel is convenient to all the attractions in town. It only takes about 5 minutes, if that, to get to the restaurants and attractions.
I would stay at Parrot Key again and highly recommend it to anyone. My husband and I started an inn in the town of Mendocino, CA and had it for eleven years. I know where of I speak.

Just stayed here for one night, booked through hotwire. It seemed like a timeshare type place, with A and B units, but without kitchen which we normally have in a timeshare. We expected a king room but ended up with a room with two queens which was not great (although this may have been a problem with hotwire). A king room likely would've had more furniture (e.g. a sofa) instead of two beds. Parking is terrible as there are many units but not many parking spots and you may have to park at Walgreen's next door. We had a large room but not much furniture, maybe because this room was for disabled people, which we aren't. I had to move some the coffee maker and other things off the only table in order to use my laptop on a table. Definitely could've used more tables or a desk. Only two chairs - one regular chair and one lounger. There was a nice bench for a couple of suitcases. Not many electrical outlets and, of the ones there, many were in inconvenient places such that we had to keep unplugging things such as lamps in order to plug other things in such as cellphone chargers. Not good if you have many electronic devices. Very clean but smelled of chlorine. Had a shower but no bathtub but, again, this may have been due to this being for disabled people. Didn't use the pool or restaurant although they looked okay. Okay for one night but wouldn't want to stay longer.
