“The dream vacation”
Reviewed January 8, 2014

The rooms are wonderful, the grounds are spectacular and there are so many things to do close by that it makes for a the perfect resort vacation! The kids love the pool and the smoothies at the bar. The Key Lime Coladas are certainly something not to miss. I love that there are four smaller pools instead of one large one, this makes it feel less crowded somehow. This was our second trip to Parrot Key and we plan on it not being our last!

Room Tip: There isn't a bad room to be had due to the layout of the property.

After a week in Marathon fishing and sunning, we arrived in Key West for two nights. The traffic had been terrible New Year's Eve and so many people everywhere. We were delighted with a very nice two story 2 bedroom and living room suite. A coffee bar and refrigerator was also included. We had front and rear porches with chairs. The landscaping is very lush . The 5 pools are surrounded and allow the feeling of privacy. Water sports equipment for the channel to the Gulf was available for rent. We loved our breakfast at the Blue Cafe. All was clean and well maintained . Everyone was very friendly.

My somewhat extended family of 8 stay at the Parrot in January 2014 and we had a great time, the hotel gardens and pool area are very well designed to give you the impression of a much larger area, the pool is saltwater which is nice and the pool bar is large with plenty of tables with a long happy hour.
The rooms are new, well decorated and very clean. The king size bed was to soft for my taste and the pillows to large but the others nice amenities like shower and a tub overshadow this.
Overall is an excellent hotel the reason to give it an average rating is because we were charged 25 dlls per day per room as a resort fee, this charge was not specified in their webpage nor in the Travelocity page were I book the rooms, This would prevent me from staying at this hotel again since I felt robed.

Room Tip: The oceanfront rooms in my view are not worth the cost diference and the inconvenience of beign far...

This place is overrated and not worth the money. The management are inflexible and difficult to deal with. It has no room service, no night time restaurant or bar and is not a resort quality property.

First the good. The grounds are beautiful. Gorgeous landscaping throughout. The front desk crew was very friendly upon both check in and check out.
Second, the bad. The resort as a whole needs a definite update. The furnishings are tired and worn. The mattresses and pillows are horrible!!! We stayed in a two bedroom villa. The upstairs bedroom has cold tile floors, no carpeting, only one night stand and lamp, the ac vent is inside the closet so the door has to be kept open, the bathroom is strictly builder grade and not well done, tile grouting coming apart, vanity doors do not close etc. The frig in the living area is smaller than my dorm frig was and that was 30 years ago! No bottled water in room. Was very dissappointed after looking at pics online.
The pools are tiny although there are 4 to choose from. The lounge chairs were coming apart and they are very uncomfortable. No small tables at lounge chairs around pool either to put your drink on. The lounges are meant to have padded cushions but only a few at the cafe pool have them. Had a drink and some food at cafe upon arrival. Drinks were fine but food was mediocre at best. I will say the bartender/waiter was outstanding and after 4 days we figured out that he was basically the only staff at the cafe. He was always pleasant and worked his tail off. There were many families there when we were there and the adults seemed oblivious as the kids were loud and wild at the pool. I am a mom of four kids so I am not immune to their behavior but I was on an adults only vacation and this was a bit irritating. Would be nice if they had one pool area strictly for adults. Won't be staying here again and chose this over Casa Marina (where I have stayed before) to save a few bucks. Not worth the savings.

Parrot Key is a gorgeous resort with lush, beautiful grounds, a friendly, eager-to-please staff, 4 wonderful, heated pools, on-site bike rentals with very helpful staff, and pretty, spacious rooms. They do have cancellation deadlines for holiday reservations and special dates so check those out when you book. We had no problem with the reservation process, but we were aware of deadlines for New Year's. They don't charge for the deposit until the deadline is reached. The person who complained about the reservation process no doubt missed a deadline. Since Key West is a destination resort area, I'm sure they have to adhere to deadlines. Anyway, we had a great stay. The resort is on water, but no swimming beach. Key West has public beaches, but they are long and skinny. More of a swimming pool, boating, fishing, walking, biking, eating out, shopping, scooter rental destination. Amazing restaurants, in particular Santiago's Bodega and Duetto's. Goldman's Deli in Winn Dixie Plaza great for breakfast -- lattes $1.95. We had great weather, with one rainy day -- went to the Butterfly Garden -- perfect! Don't miss the Truman White House and Hemingway House. Hogfish Grill cooked our catch -- so delicious! Waffle good at pool bar, if you get eggs, ask for substitute for tater tots (not good). Room had super tiny refrigerator, comfy bed, flat screen hd tv, DVD player, cable, coffee maker, but no safe. If you get a suite, you also get a microwave and toaster. Not a kitchenette. They need new pool towels. Road construction in the area -- that will improve biking when done. We loved biking everywhere and found it easy tho some drivers ignore crosswalks. Should issue more tickets. Turn on Eisenhower when heading into town and then take Petronia down to Duval. This is not a resort with lots of restaurants or amenities, but we would stay again. The grounds are gorgeous, the rooms are very nice, though not luxurious, and it is on water, though not an expansive ocean view. Go for the pools, grounds, seclusion, and friendly people.

Room Tip: If on water, better water view upstairs, but downstairs rooms open onto sandy area.

There isn't a bad room at this resort. The rooms are very spacious and have balconies on both sides. Very lush grounds make even the garden view rooms very attractive. The units resemble high end ,three level narrow time shares...so they offer you the flexibility to have a studio, two bed & bath or three bath & bedroom offerings.
Pros: It's beautiful, reasonably quite, clean, spacious, Walgreen's and other shopping necessities are within a short walk. They have a private beach that is on the other side of the island where they also offer water sports for a fee. There is a shuttle for that. Free Wi-Fi.
Cons, Squeaky Beds that are lumpy...we were able to sleep ok on them, but they mattresses really do not do justice to the resort. The gym is too small and needs more AC, The four pools are protected from the wind but they lack a children's type pool . There is no safe to store valuables in the room, It's not within walking distance to the old part of Key West. Parking in Old Key West can be challenging so it would be wonderful if the town could start a rotating shuttle service similar to what they have in Tahoe. It would help with the parking situation. There is parking at the resort with overflow at the Walgreen's which we have had to used whenever we came back after nine PM.
All in all, we are very pleased with the resort which we had to book at the last minute and we would recommend it to friends. But if you would like to experience the old Key West and not have to worry about parking a car...I would try to get to one of the Historic B&B's.
PS, there is not much to do outside of Key West except for seeing the Turtle Hospital (be sure to go well before 4PM which is when they have the last tour) and the Key Deer about 25 miles East...best time is near dusk and at well kept lawns...they love eating the green grass. Other than that, there are no interesting galleries or pints of interest along Highway 1 which we were hoping to enjoy. Stay in Key West...that is where all of the action is.

Room Tip: Any room will be fine here...the water view rooms are nice, but for the money, safe it an focus on s...
