Newer than the Marriott up the road the Playa Largo Resort & Spa, which is part of the same group, has many things going for it but is not quite the finished article. (Note that the hotel seems to be in the market for conferences as part of its accommodation base load.) We stayed in the main building on an upper floor. The room was spacious and well designed with good amenities (eg. coffee machine, decent size safe, outstanding bathrobes), plenty of light and a nice balcony. However, there were a few disappointing aspects down in the weeds - the door was too tight in the frame, the bathroom could use more hooks, and the flooring was a bit slippery (too much or the wrong wax ?). Service was generally excellent, especially the front desk, but the barmen in two of the watering holes we used were offhand bordering on grumpy in one case. The fitness centre is very good with a pleasant vista towards the pool, and there is a small but attractive beach. The additional daily charge of US$ 39 (over and above the room rate) to cover various extra facilities, such as the use of bicycles, is a little steep if you only use the valet parking. All in all, this is a very pleasant spot where you can enjoy sundowners looking out over the bay at the end of the day, but our resort experience was not quite blow away.
