Owner description: Since 1977 Quiescence has concentrated on providing it's clientele with an un-crowded and personalized way to enjoy the sport of diving - both scuba diving and snorkeling. We have three boats here at Quiescence, and each operates with a maximum of six passengers to provide each customer with personalized attention, comfort, and safety. This also gives us the ability to take our divers out to spots not normally visited by divers. Our charters operate within the Key Largo National Marine Sanctuary, John Pennekamp State Park, and beyond. Each dive location is selected first and foremost by the customer's wishes, supported by recommendations by the Captain as to local conditions.

“First time snorkeling”
Reviewed June 3, 2014

Our family of 6 with ages ranging from 9 to 70 went on a trip in May. We had a beautiful sunny day with waves under 1 foot. All the staff was friendly and very helpful with the gear, making sure everyone had the proper fit. Our boat captain was helpful and informative. A cooler and water were provided on the boat for our use. We visited 3 sites, all were beautiful with plenty of coral and fish. We could not have asked for a better experience, and now I am hooked! Of all the things we did in South Florida that week, this was our 9 year olds favorite, Quiescence made this a very memorable experience.

“Solid Dive Company!”
Reviewed May 31, 2014

We dove one day with Quiescence Dive Center on our way through the Keys. Our guide was Matt and he was very friendly and professional. We had a nice small group of 3 people. Both our dives were reef, one being a protected site called Molasses which had some nice coral that I had not seen before. Matt gave a standard safety talk about the dive and about the boat before leaving the dock. He was a great guide and was great at pointing out some underwater features. Also during our dives my father and I had some 2nd stage air problems (Our own gear) and they were great at giving us spares on the boat so that we could continue our dives. Matt also took the time to attempt fixing the 2nd stages at their shop free of charge. Bottom line great service, professional, and reliable.

“A great outfit to snorkel with”
Reviewed May 28, 2014

Quiescence Dive Center takes a maximum of six people out on their boat(s). This allows you to ask questions of your captain without a line of people wanting similar advice. They appear to be equally concerned with your safety, as well as, making sure you have an enjoyable experience. If you are coming from Miami, or points north, they are at MM 103 so you do not have to take much time driving further down into the Keys. The boat ride to the site is apporimately 45 minutes and it is stunning; so this is a part of your experience. For your $50.00 you get the boat ride, snorkel equipment and a concerned staff that will look after you. Really, what more can you ask for?

“A Picture Perfect Day”
Reviewed May 27, 2014

Our experience with Quiescence Dive Center could not have been any better. Our group of 5 went out for an afternoon snorkeling adventure with Captain Johnny, and I don't think any of us wanted it to end. They are serious about keeping their trips small, and as a result we had the boat all to ourselves, which was great as we were able to really get to know our captain and pick his brain about the sites on the way out to the reef and the reef itself.

One of the participants in our group had been involved in a serious boating accident awhile back, and this was her first time out on a boat following her injury. We let Captain Johnny know about this, and from that moment on, he was like an adoptive father to us all, but especially to her. Captain Johnny told us all about how he's been running the Quiescence boats since the 70s and has never had an accident or an injury to speak of, which was immediately reassuring. On the way out to the reef, he went out of his way to avoid large waves and wakes, and warned us all in advance of any sea changes.

Even though it was Memorial Day Monday and the reefs were crowded, he managed to take us to places that were frequented mostly by families on private crafts and not overrun with large dive boats. As a result we got an awesome experience with plenty of sea life and minimal competition for prime viewing spots. We hit 3 different spots on the reef, each a little deeper and a little more dramatic than the last. The reef is in a protected area, and as a result it is simply teeming with life, from giant hermit crabs, urchins, anemone, massive brain coral, soft fan coral, parrot fish of all sized, king angels, grouper, yellow tail, barracuda ranging from babies to the (sort of scary, but awesome to see) human sized specimens, and a million tropical fish I don't have names for. At each spot Captain Johnny gave us a full rundown on what we could expect to see, what to look out for to avoid running aground on the reef, and the best way to navigate that particular place on the reef. We ended our day at the Christ of the Abyss statue and enjoyed a leisurely ride back into the dock, chatting amongst our group and with the captain like we'd known him forever. I would happily go back to Quiescence every day, and I recommend it highly for anyone looking for a great day out on the water.
