My fiance and I just flew down to the Keys for Christmas to do our open water checkout dives for open water certification. We chose Quiescence based on their small boat size and their great reviews. Our dive master Matt was a fantastic instructor. He was very professional but took the time to point out lots of interesting things during our dives. If we had trouble completing particular tasks, he helped us by giving us multiple chances to get the skill right. The boat's captain Don was also great in that he checked all the diver's gear (even experienced divers), and gave us all detailed orientation to the dive sites. He also helped us take our equipment on and off. It was nice that we all decided as a group where to go each day. In the end, we became certified divers, and saw a whole bunch of great things: green sea turtles, green moray eels, large southern sting ray, parrotfish, angelfish, great barracuda, lots of grouper, cowfish, lionfish, squirrelfish, yellow snapper, and lots of others!
Our only complaints were not really related to the dive company. We both got seasick both days due to the choppy weather (~3-4 foot waves), and the small boats (25 ft) did not really help. Also, we dove using 6 mm suits. They do not have full 5 mm wetsuits, so we had to rent a long-john style and layer it with a 3 mm shorty. All equipment was in new condition except for a few old O-rings. They also do not provide free guides on their dives, and no free snacks--but there is a cooler where you can place food/drink items.
I highly recommend Quiescence. Ask for Matt for any courses!
