Recommended length of visit: More than 3 hours
Owner description: Since 1977 Quiescence has concentrated on providing it's clientele with an un-crowded and personalized way to enjoy the sport of diving - both scuba diving and snorkeling. We have three boats here at Quiescence, and each operates with a maximum of six passengers to provide each customer with personalized attention, comfort, and safety. This also gives us the ability to take our divers out to spots not normally visited by divers. Our charters operate within the Key Largo National Marine Sanctuary, John Pennekamp State Park, and beyond. Each dive location is selected first and foremost by the customer's wishes, supported by recommendations by the Captain as to local conditions.

Dive every day subject to 2 divers. 3 on the boat I went on. Dive boat captain and only crew member said we could choose the dive site so we let him choose we went to the Elbow . We were the only boat so had the site to ourselves.
Competitively priced as ~I guess most sites charge the same but we had the advantage of just 3 of us so no day trippers or snorkelers.

“great dive experience!”
Reviewed January 17, 2013

just got back from a trip to the keys and wanted to share my experience with quiescence.

i inquired there the day before i wanted to make a dive and was told there would be a dive the followiing morning, they even recommened a clean, inexpensive place to stay close by!

i showed up the next morning and was informed that the other diver had yet to show up and we would wait in the hopes that they would show up. after about a half hour it was clear that the others were no-shows. i was expecting the dive to be cancelled, instead of cancelling the dive they told me they were have one of their divemasters (ben) come out with me.

the boat was small, clean and comfortable.
the equiptment i rented was in good shape which hasn't always been my experience.

scott the captian was friendly and knowledgeable and gave good briefings, took us to the dive sites "spikes" and "slabs", about 30 minutes from the diveshop. the dive shop is on the bayside and travels through the mangroves to the ocean - nice!
ben was a great dive buddy.

we saw something of everything the keys has to offer!

i know who i'll be diving with on future vists to key largo and recommend them to anyone tried of the the larger boats full of divers you'd rather not dive with.

p.s. has anyone else wondered how some on this site will write that they had "the worst
experience of their lives" and still ends ends up giving the place in question a 2 out of 5 points?

“Great overall dive experience”
Reviewed January 7, 2013 via mobile

Very nice dive shop that took out small groups of divers, max of 6 divers per boat. They had good equipment for rental, friendly and educated staff, and they took us to a variety of dive sites.

“A great choice for diving Key Largo...”
Reviewed December 20, 2012

I've been diving with Quiescence since 2003 and have been there 5 times, my latest was in September, 2012. If you enjoy a small dive boat for you and 5 friends, with personalized service, being allowed input as to what dive sites you want to explore and an dive day tailored to your wishes and experiences, this is the place to go. Guy gives great service in setting up your reservations and explaining what to expect. I've gone diving with John, Ryan, Don and Steve. All very good captains. Dive briefs are complete, including what to look for and where. Water and towels are available on the boat, and there is a cooler if you want to bring drinks and/or snacks for the day. You can book half and full days of diving. If you plan a full day, bring lunch to the shop as the turn around time at the dock is brief (time for a bathroom break and to wolf down a sandwich while the tanks are swapped out. Speaking of bathroom breaks, be advised that there isn't a "head" on any of the three boats in the fleet. So keep that in mind if you don't have a large bladder and adjust your consumption accordingly.
They use thick walled 60 and 80 Cu. Ft. tanks, so you won't need to carry as much lead as you might on other charters. Nitrox is available. There are rinse tubs on the dock, as well as a fresh water shower. You can store your gear in their locked storage area for people doing a multiple day dive trip.
Dive depths can range from 25 ft to deep dives on the wrecks of the Duane and Spiegel Grove. Advanced certification is required for these deeper dives, and there is a separate fee for diving on the SG.
This operation is safe, courteous and know the value of customer service. If you're thinking of Key Largo diving, these are the guys to go with!

“I've weeded through the worst of the dive shops ...”
Reviewed December 19, 2012

I have been ‘interviewing’ dive/snorkel shops for a year. I was lured by the “free dive guide” promo or a bit cheaper price, but have NOT and will NOT return to any of those! Granted, the guides themselves were quite nice and helpful, but the cattle-boat style operation was horrifying! One of them even had all 30 of us walk fully geared up with fins and tanks to the platform! Not so at Quiescence. Capt Harry brought our tanks/bc to us as we put our fins and weights on at the platform. He was patient and encouraging. Our guide Ryan explained his protocol perfectly and reinforced everything we needed to remember as new divers. Your dive experience is more than just your time at the reef, so don’t go cattle-style! I’ve no need to ‘interview’ any more shops. Thank you Quiescence for a great experience.
