I chose Gilberts because it was affordable (150 dollars) a night. It was very dirty. The floor near the shower was disgusting. The door to the bathroom was dirt caked. The room was hot until you turned on the VERY LOUD air conditioner. The floor was sticky and sandy at the same time. The beds were small and way too soft. It looked to me like someone had gone to a chain store and purchased multi-pieced bedding and curtains to mask the really nastiness of this place. We called the main office to get information about the wireless connection. The call was not answered. We called the main office to get extra pillows, nobody answered. My husband walked up to see if they had any extra pillows and the answer was no. Same for towels for the pool. NO TOWELS for the pool. Oh joy for joys, we did ask for more towels for the room and we did get them but until our identity was confirmed lest we take these towels for oh something like CLEAN PILLOWS!! My husband woke my son and I up at 630 so we could just leave as soon as possible. It was nasty.

This is an old fashioned motel which has seen better days, but the location beside the river and onto the Gulf is great. There is a small beach and a large open sided bar and restaurant with live groups and best of all conch steaks. Rooms have patios or balconies directly onto the river.

Cannot possibly be up to code. There was hardly any hot water. There were cigarette stains on the comforter, the bed was falling apart and the refrigerator was completely rusted. The sheets are thin and stained as well. Do not waste your money here!!!!!

Our room was dirty, very outdated and just overall disgusting. I think they are counting on people getting so drunk that they don't care what their room looks like. My husband and I don't drink so we didn't get that luxury. We went to KMart so I could buy a Swiffer to mop the floor because it was so dirty the bottoms of our feet were black. The floor tiles in the shower stall had been painted so it was extremely slippery and dangerous to take a shower. We stayed there because it is dog friendly, but there is no grassy area to take them to. Our dogs were used to grass and we had a terrible time trying to get them to relieve themselves. My husband is handicapped and has to walk with a cane. He told them this when he booked our room and they put us as far away from everything as they could. He was forced to walk a lot further than he should have had to. We left a day early because we couldn't take it anymore. We did not get any refund.

I did not stay overnight at Gilberts, but went to the Tiki Bar for dinner while vacationing. The service was slow and the food only mediorce. The reason I'm writing this review is to warn you about the "dog friendliness" of the "resort". While eating dinner it was noticed that MANY patrons did not adhere by the rule of keeping dogs on a leash. We were forced to watch dogs starting to, or in some cases, just going to the bathroom before their owners paid attention. This was disgusting and I'd warn anyone who thought of going there to ask themselves how sanitary the eating conditions would be. We left after a few bites.

Very dirty!!! The room as well as the property was filthy and not well kept!! Very loud. A lot of families. Children running everywhere. Do not go at the time of year when it may be too chilly to run air conditioner. The noise from the A/C was the only thing that kept us sane. The tiki bar and restaurant were VERY expensive. The first 2 nights we stayed on the second floor and were told it had a view of the water. We may have been able to see water if they cut the tree tops back. They were so overgrown they were starting to come onto the porch. We asked to change rooms for the last 3 nights of our stay so we could be on the canal. They accommodated our request. There was a front door and a back door to the room. Our door was located on the dock. We had a shared deck on the canal. The deck was filthy!! Cigarette butts everywhere and 2 marijuana roaches left from other guests. Our son, who is in the Navy and stationed in Norfolk, VA., flew into the Miami airport to stay the week with us. What a disappointment for us all. If we hadn't had to prepay for the room we would have definitely moved to another resort. We bought our 22 ft. boat with us because it is free to use their boat launch, however, good luck finding a parking space for one vehicle, yet one with a boat in tow!! VERY small parking lot. As a matter of fact we had to park about 1/2 mile from the room because there was no parking space available for us. The restaurant/bar is open to the public so they take up most of the parking spaces!! We could have found one if we were to try and park after 2am or before 12:00pm. The owner is very rude!!! It was like the entire staff was doing us a favor letting us pay them for staying there!!!! The concern for their guests, unless they were family, was non-existent. Horrible customer service!!!!!

Room Tip: Look at the room before you agree to stay in it. Make sure they have at least cleaned the toilet an...
