Key West Inn - Key Largo
Ranked #18 of 20 Hotels in Key Largo
Reviewed July 19, 2013

My girlfriend, my 13 year old daughter and I stayed here in July during our yearly dive trip as we have on several other occasions in Key Largo. The hotel consists of two story suites - a bedroom and bath is upstairs and a living area, second bath, kitchen, and a screened in porch are on the main floor. This is NOT a fancy or modern hotel but it is a fun and a SUPER deal if you just need a place to stay while diving in the area, especially if there are more then 2 people in your group. The upstairs bed is a queen size bed, firm but comfortable and the downstairs sleeper sofa is what you may expect from a sofa. There is much more room than other hotels for about half the price. Plenty of open and covered parking. Horizon Divers is located right next door and very convenient if you choose to dive. Here some tips if you want to improve your stay: 1) Bring some scented candles or an air freshener. 2) The kitchen has THE BASICS, but if you plan on staying for a while bring your own favorite kitchen utensils. (We brought a Kuerig and a pizza baking pan) 3) If you dive, bring a portable clothing or drying rack (BB&B $20.00) since there are no places to hang up your wetsuits, bathing suits or other SCUBA gear. We finally invested in two racks and it was the best investment and decision we made. We set them both up in the screened in porch area and it worked out perfectly!! We have noticed that even the fanciest of all hotels will NOT provide a place to hang your wet equipment or clothing. 4) Bring your own pillow. 5) Be realistic and flexible: it’s an older place, dated furniture, with a view of a canal, across a bar and restaurant that has live music, has a vey small pool but wonderful employees, that will go out of their way to help you out IF YOU ASK them. I would stay here again!

We stayed at Key West and in Key Largo for two nights in June, 2rd and 4th, 2013. The receptionist was friendly and helpful when we checked in. The units are two level condos with an upstairs bedroom and a downstairs living room and full kitchen. The living room has a queen sleeper sofa. There is an outside screened in deck with table and chairs facing the canal, where you can watch the dive and snorkel boats come and go while you eat a meal. They are two full bathrooms, one on each level. Behind the building, along the canal on the ground level, there is a gas grill, and tables you can use. The beds were comfortable, the sheets were clean. The bathrooms were clean with plenty of towels and hot water and good water pressure. It was very adequate for our needs, and was close to the dive centers. We are very pleased with our stay there, and we’ll go there again next time we go to Key Largo.

Yes, it's not a high end luxury resort, but the place was clean and the staff was EXTREMELY friendly and helpful! I would go there again - I stayed next door previously at the Marriott Courtyard and paid more for about the same amenities.

Not many amenities here, just your basic , very basic effeciency. Nice to have an upstairs bedroom and 2 baths. Pull out bed was terrible, main bed was ok. Kitchen had very little to offer, electric stove, barely any utensils to use, full fridge which was good. Screened back porch was nice , door was hard to open and the blinds kept falling off. This place is old and has old stuff, old tube tv's, furniture , etc. Seen a few bugs in the room (ants and cockroaches) Housekeeping twice a week unless otherwise requested. I tried to use the grill that they said they have on site to use and it was pretty sad, I had to bring my steaks back into the kitchen and fry them in the ONE small frying pan we had, the grill seemed to have a problem, possibly bad regulator. The washer and dryer on site are old and rusted and you have to pay to use them, the pool is small , no hot tub. If you want to go on a snorkel.dive/fishing trip , this place is convenient, we set up a snorkel and jet ski trip right there and departed from the canal behimg the inn, so that was a plus, didn't have to drive anywhere. Parking was nice, plenty of space. I had to pay a $51 resort fee that was not included in the price I paid through expedia, and I fail to see what I paid this resort fee for, the place is the Key west Inn, not the Ket west resort, there wasn't any amenities to warrant this steep of a resort fee.
Anyway, the stay was ok, the people were nice and helpful when I asked for something so that's why I gave it 3 stars.

This was a stop for us to snorkel the next day and then finish our drive down into the keys. The room was clean and huge (2 stories, full kitchen, screened in porch, small dining area), but clearly an older building. It's right on a channel and there is a snorkel place that leaves from under the hotel. The best way to describe the place is a clean older apartment complex that you would see in any college town. We checked in after the room was closed but our keys were left out for us with a note (complete w/ smiley face) asking us to swing in and sign the registration before we left in the morning. The price ~100 bucks made this a pretty decent room for what and where it was.

If you're a diver, there are places next door and across the canal. There is also a gas station in walking distance for the basics.

The property needs some work. Units ok, but nothing special. Pull out couch/bed the worst I have ever seen. "Resort Fees" for dumpy little pool plus charges for room safe. I don't know how it got all those 5 star ratings when it's a basic efficiency unit with only 3 of the 4 burners on the stove that work. (Control for largest one removed & taped over.)
