We stayed at the Rock Reef Resort for four nights and loved the location. We stayed in cottage #9 on the beach. Our boys (10 and 6) were able to fish off the dock and I was able to watch them from the cottage. The location was perfect for going to Pennekamp (highly recommend the glass bottom boat trip) or Islamorada (wave runners and boat rentals from A1A water sports behind the Days Inn). Bring water shoes to Pennekamp Park if you are going to hang there. It's all coral and no sand. Rock Reef was also a short drive to all the restaurants (loved Mrs. Mac's and Doc's Diner).
I was so glad I chose this over the Ramada which is stuck right on the main road and by a busy commercial area.
The people at Rock Reef are incredibly helpful. If you want to do a charter, ask at the desk for Lain's number (?Key Largo Charters?). He was busy the day we went so we used Mike's Charters and they were so-so.
The only downer was the mosquitos that swarmed after a day of storms. But the staff did their best and the mosquito control truck actually came onto the property to spray. You can't ask for more than that.

I just graduated with my Doctors of Pharmacy and wanted to celebrate with my family. However, we wanted a private and quite vacation spot. The Rook Reef Resort was just the perfect spot. This resort was able to accomodate my whole family~14 people. We reserved a cottage and one extra room. The view was beautiful and the family had a great time together. Thanks Rock Reef for making this graduation celebration a blast.

The Reef Rock is a simple motel with an awesome beach area. We stopped in on a whim on the way to Key West as we had no reservations. We stayed one night an headed to Key West where we stayed 2 nights and then headed back to Key Largo for 3 nights. We stayed at the Rock Reef again, we lazed around in their hammocks, used their BBQs to cook our own seafood (we were getting tired of restraunts by this point in our trip), after an incredible sunset (which we didn't see in Key West) we relaxed in the outdoor hot tub and watched the stars.

Spent 4th of July weekend at this beautiful resort with our son and 18 and 13 year old grandsons, snorkeling and fishing every day. Older property but well maintained and very clean. Management and staff are very friendly and efficient. For a laid back, no frills vacation, it was perfect.

The Rock Reef Resort just south of Key Largo, Florida is our favorite vacation resort in the Upper Keys and we have stayed there on numerous occasions over the past twelve years. The Resort has many unique buildings such as beach front cottages, apartments, and efficiencies. Our favorite is one of the cottages on the beach of beautiful Florida Bay.

Amongst all of the buildings are many lovely, flowering bushes and trees and a very unusual Bonsai garden that must be seen to be appreciated.

This resort is for those that want to relax and enjoy the scenery. It is not a modern Hilton type resort with all of the modern amenities. Every room has a TV and a refrigerator. There is no pool, but there is the wonderful Florida Bay, and there is no restaurant on site. There are many excellent restaurants within a relatively short drive, and there is Ballyhoo's across the street where one can walk to have lunch or dinner. John Pennekamp park is just north of the resort and this is an excellent location for diving.

On our recent trip we learned that WiFi has been installed for those travelers that feel they must be in contact with work.
