“Great start to our holiday”
Reviewed April 2, 2007

We recently spent ten days in Florida at three different locations. Tarpon Flats was our first port of call, where we stayed for 3 nights. We really weren't sure what to expect, but were very pleased with our room and the place in general. The B&B is in a secluded spot and has its own idyllic private beach. The first morning we lay in the hammock and watched the sun rise, it was wonderful. Our room was on the second floor, overlooked the sea and was well-equipped. Breakfast was great, with a good choice. On the last day we took our tray down to the beach to eat breakfast which was really lovely. Although, I think the B&B was full during our visit, it was very peaceful and relaxed and though small, there was always room on the beach for us. There are a couple of kayaks and a boat for the guests' use and we made good use of these, which was great. The staff were friendly and gave advice on what to do. We did make the trip to Key West which was well worth the drive. Finding somewhere to eat nearby was fine, although we did use the car. Our only criticism was that the room wasn't cleaned during our stay, but there was a supply of clean towels. This didn't detract from our enjoyment of the place. All in all it was a great start to our holiday and we would definitely stay at Tarpon Flats again.

I only stayed for one night but I wish I could've stayed for more! The staff was friendly, the room was clean, and it all had a home-like feel to it. I got the sweetheat deal and everything was as it should be. There was wine & a fruit/cheese platter waiting for us when we arrived. The breakfast was a little generic (had to make your own coffee/tea, etc.) but it was nice to enjoy it in the room with the door opened facing the water. They also have healthy alternatives on the menu. All in all our stay was great...we can't wait to return! Well worth the price!

This place is a wonderful gem! Wonderful location, grounds, hospitality and service. The rooms are VERY clean and updated. (We had two rooms - one on first and second floor.) We will definitely be back again.

Stayed here over Xmas and had a great time.

The rooms are great and even have Fox Soccer on the TV for Brits such as myslef missing their soccer fix.

The breakfasts are lovely and a welcome break from the pancakes and frazzled bacon that you get everywhere else.

The free use of the kayaks is another asset and we were actually followed by a playful manatee whilst canoeing in the harbour adjacent to the inn.

The only compliants are the swimming pool which is no bigger than many hot tubs (without the heat!) and the cleanliness of the room. The sink and bath were never cleaned during our 5 night stay and we didn't always get fresh towels.

Overall we'd thoroughly recommend this and it is an oasis in Key Largo. It also makes a change, in Florida, to be able to walk to the shops/restaurants (Walgreens, a couple of cafes etc).

  • Liked — The ambience
  • Disliked — The lack of quality cleaning
  • Tips/Secrets — Don't tell too many people about this place - only 6 rooms!

Wow....Wow....Wow !!!!! Found this great place when the first choice we had was booked (remains un-named) and they said call Carol at Tarpon Flats. I'm glad we did. I think we had the best room in the house but when I talked to other guests they thought the same about their rooms. This is the place to stay if you like Ritz and Four Seasons style but at a third of the price. Bring a good book and hope you can read it before your eyes keep drifting off to the horizon and great vista's. Some local boat people live tied up nearby and if you say hello they'll give you the best advice about where to eat and what to do. I loved that I could Kayak from Largo Sound to the Gulf of Mexico and back between breakfast (which is great) and lunch. Some guests brought fishing poles and caught snapper off the back of the yard. That's too much work for me so we just ate at wonderful local restaurants. Carol recommended a Saturday night music jam at a "coffee house" where some great local talent comes together to play. It's free and they serve adult beverages (good food, too). It was a blues theme the night we went and I felt like we were in the middle of the stage. Once you get to Tarpon Flats, everything you need is less than 15 minutes away. I can't say enough good things.

  • Liked — Huge rooms with everything you need.
  • Disliked — Nothing
  • Tips/Secrets — Arrive early and stay late

My husband and I had a wonderful time at Tarpon Flats. The location is private and the grounds beautiful. We enjoyed laying in the hammock underneath the palm trees and spending time in the new pool. The area does become active with boats and children (marine camp) during the day but by sundown everything is quiet.

We stayed in one of the rooms on the third floor - large with a kitchenette. It had a beautiful view of Largo Bay. Carol, the hostess, was friendly and informative.

We would recommend this inn to anyone wanting to relax for a few days.

When we were looking for hotels around the area, all we could find were overpriced boating resorts or cheesy hotels. Tarpon Flats was perfect. We had a room on the third floor that was beautiful and had a nice view of the water. There was some noise activity in the marina but it didn't last past 10PM. There wasn't a balcony as they do for the second floor rooms but we had the french doors open into the view of the water. The sunrise that morning was a great way to start the way. So was the breakfast that is delivered to your room. Carol was great and so accomodating and helped us book our snorkeling trip.
