“Nice”
Reviewed April 21, 2014 via mobile

Kids had a great time swimming and snorkeling and playing. Aquarium, glass bottom boats, and visitor center were closed, which was cruddy as we wanted to visit them, but it was ok nonetheless. Cannons and reefs were cool for the kids to see.

Would like to give two ratings for this park. Campground itself is 2 stars in terms of 'camping' experience, but the overall park is 4 star.
Campground: I must say the facilities were good, washrooms were good (larger washroom was messier than the smaller one though), laundry facilities at large washroom were convenient, and we felt secure because of gate system. The thing is, the campsites have no privacy, which is often the case at many Florida private campgrounds. The park is a series of Laneways to park on, side by side, with a grill and a picnic table at each site. Not the kind of site you'd want to spend time on except to sleep. No campfires allowed so we had small pre-fab firelog fire in our grill.
But the upside is the larger park itself: There are two beaches to choose from, a concession stand, a small aquarium to visit, snorkeling tours right in the park, kayak rentals, trails to walk. So even though the campsites are little more than parking spots, you have the entire rest of the park at your disposal to enjoy.
We camped 4 nights in a tent trailer here. Sandwiched between two huge RV's which felt a little bit like the windows of the two RVs were staring down into our site. Weird. Never really saw our neighbours...
There are lots of amenities just outside the park; nearby Publix, gas, giftshops, fast food.

This campground was such a disappointment. Sites are very narrow, with no consideration for slides. While it does have full hook ups, they are very poorly designed. Sewer hook ups for your neighbors are sited right in your front door. Water is on opposite side from electric. It's a good quarter mile hike to the beach. Park itself is nice, with many activities to choose from, such as boat rentals, snorkeling etc. It was very crowded when we were there, due to Spring Break (that was poor planning on my part). For the most part, staff was friendly, however improvements in check in needs to be made. We did arrive a little before check in time and was told to go park in boat parking lot. Had to make numerous trips to office before being told our site was empty. I was not impressed with this campground when comparing it to some of the others Florida has to offer.

Would recommend this state park for those beginners to advanced snorkeling enthusiasts. Smaller beaches for sun dwellers as well as shaded spots with picnic tables. Very pleasant area to spend a Floridian afternoon

This was our second trip to the park. Last time we were here we went snorkeling from shore which was disappointing. I would recommend that you take the boat out if you want to snorkle. We did all the trails in the park and loved being able to identify all the trees. We enjoyed a picnic lunch at one of the tables overlooking the water.

Nice Campground close to the marina and dive shop. Clean facilities and friendly staff. Comment for campground administration: Why close the toilet/showers for 3 collective hours of cleaning starting at 9:30am when guests are getting ready for activities/check-out? Why not clean between 1pm and 4pm when guests are most likely to be out and about?

Starting out, our campsite is large enough for our 36.5 ft RV and we can park our car in front of the RV. There is even some space behind a tree for more room to place our car hauler. The site is #36. This is one of the few Florida State Park campsites we've found that has full hookups including sewer dump. Although we haven't been to all Florida State Parks, this is the first I've seen with full hookup. This does provide 50 and 30 amp hookup. There is a boat dock here as well as a chance to purchase separately a tour on a glass bottom boat. There is a playground for the kids and also a visitors center with a free aquarium to visit. Nice touches. The park is quiet and sheltered by lots of trees so no traffic can be heard whatsoever. Grocery stores and other restaurants are near by as this is on what I believe is the biggest Key in the Keys, Key Largo. Great place to stay and we'd stay here again.
