My husband and I visited this campground after having spent 4 nights at Boyd's in Key West (highly recommend!). We arrived New Year's Eve day. We were camping in a tent and got the only tent site in the trailer area (T31). The site was very large and faced the marina and fish cleaning station. Behind our site was the washroom facilities.
The first things we noticed were several cats (in heat) throughout the campsite, as well as being bit by the no-see-ums. Almost 2 weeks later, our bites are still very red and itchy.
Next came the first visit to the washrooms. I have attached photos. The washrooms are very old, dirty, and broken. There is no fan, so it is very hot all the time. The two mornings we were there, someone came by around 6am to empty the garbage, with their radio blaring. They returned around 8am to clean, and both mornings had the washrooms closed for almost 2 hours...at the very time most campers are getting up and wanting to use them. On the second morning, the washrooms were blocked off at 9:15 but no one was there. Several women and I went in. While we were in there (some showering), the cleaning person started yelling at us that he had closed the washrooms. Awesome.
The next item was the beach. We went down to check that out as it looked kind of nice on the website. The beach is not accessible. There was at least 6 feet of dead seaweed from the shore, scummy water, and the smell is just not something a photo can capture.
We walked over to check out the pool. It looked ok, but very cloudy. The next morning I witnessed a woman walking around at 8:30, trying to find someone who could unlock the gate for her, but the employees she was talking to told her they didn't have access to a key and she would have to wait until someone else got there to let her in.
The morning we left, we went in to speak with someone about our concerns.
