My wife and I went for a couple of days last weekend (March 15-16) to "get away from it all!" That's exactly what happens here. It is beautiful! My wife, who is very picky when it comes to accomadations, said it was one of the nicest places she has ever stayed. That is saying alot coming from her! Everyone is so helpful and they make you feel like your home.
Great food that is close by too! Harriette's for breakfast and key lime muffins! Mrs. mac's for everything. Category 3 for burgers! Cafe Largo for pasta and excellent Long Island Ice teas! Go to bar behind Cafe Largo for a nightcap on the water!
Highly recommend this for couples who want to get away to peace and quiet! Beautiful sunsets!

Room Tip: All rooms are close to the water so just a matter of how much you need to see it and if you need a k...

We had googled and researched so many places to stay for our honeymoon and found this cozy spot. From the time we pulled in to the minute we left days later, our stay was absolutely wonderful. The staff are SO friendly and accomodating to your every need- they helped us book activities and recommended really great restaurants. Most of the activities we wanted to do were within a short car ride, or the staff would book the activity to come to us! The landscaping was gorgeous and we felt like we were in a remote oasis. We highly recommend this for any stay you are wanting to do in the Keys.

My husband (Glen) and I had a simple but beautiful sunset wedding at the Kona Kai in 2003. We both agreed that it really couldn't have been more romantic. Since then, we've returned for our first, fifth, and most recently, our tenth anniversary. Every time we go there it's as though we're at another home. The owners (Ronnie and Joe) and their friendly staff always make us feel welcome and comfortable. The grounds and location of the Kona Kai are beautiful and they make us feel like the rest of the world is far away; and what incredible sunsets!! I can't think of a better place to get away and unwind.

Room Tip: We always stay in the Breadfruit room. It is beautiful, the closest to the beach (water), and was r...

What a peaceful, warm, and gracious spot to call 'home' while you explore the upper keys and beyond. Our recent third trip to the Kona Kai was as pleasant as the first two. Great people on staff ... from the folks who cater to your reservation/stay needs to the needs of making the place as beautiful as it is every day. The groundskeepers are dedicated, savvy, and most friendly. What do YOU want in a home travel base? It's here: clean, comfortable, no hassle, good council on 'to do' lists and restaurants, easy, and more. Yes, you might have to put up with a few elitist guests, but ignore them and they disappear. You get what you bring and deserve to the Kona Kai. Just act like you've been there before...and don't change it!

Room Tip: ALL the rooms have been redecorated....and they are beautiful. Look at the website and pick an optio...

In their room tip, Breen0 writes: "And don't tell your friends where you are going. Let's keep it just between us!”
Funny how so many of our guests want to keep us a secret. They obviously don't want to be told: "sorry, we're sold out," when they call to book a return visit.
But, here's the scoop: "In other decades we were often sold out: that was then. This is now: we are infrequently sold-out until the day of; if even then! So, plan to stay with us by calling us at least 2 days ahead; it's likely we'll have space for you and your significant other. Book more than a week ahead and you'll likely get the suite of your choice as well as the best price. Call us @: 800-365-7829

Just returned from 5 nights at Kona Kai Resort in Key Largo with my sister. By the 5th day, we felt like we had been away much longer, totally removed from the stress and cares we left behind in the Northeast. This is a very quiet resort, at times we felt like we had the place completely to ourselves. Our little cottage was modern and very clean and had everything we needed to feel right at home. We did the botanical tour with Rick. The grounds are not large, but the number of plants are very representative of the flora of Florida and the Keys. Brought my watercolors and found some lovely plants to paint. Nobody bothered us. It was just what we needed. Go to their Facebook page to see more photos.

Room Tip: All the suites (cottages) are very nice. We stayed in the Starfruit Suite which had a separate kit...

Ok, as much as I don't want to see this paradise get overcrowded or overpriced, I owe it to Tracy and the rest of the staff at Kona Kai to post this rating. My wife and I stayed here last year and agreed to return and rent a larger cottage this year. We made the right decision. Kona Kai is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the company of the person you came with. No hustle and bustle. No throngs of people crowding the beach or pool. No Tiki bar slinging drinks. What they do have is a nice beach with swaying palms and hammocks, a long dock to watch the sunrise and sunset, a refreshing pool to cool off in, and a staff that is attentive without being overbearing. The grounds, pool and beach areas are always clean. It's peaceful, serene and private. We're already planning our 2014 getaway to....? Yeah, right back here.

This was our second stay at Kona Kai. The overall ambience is delightful-palm trees; exotic plants and tropical decor line the easy stroll to a magnificent view of the bay. Members of the staff are very helpful and accommodating. Each room has access to BBQ grills and sitting areas/private patios for having breakfast outdoors or drinks during sunsets. No pets and no children under 16. Big plus if you're looking for a calm and serene few days. Very clean. Very helpful as far as dining, things to do and places to go. Do visit the gallery. It takes as long as you want it to take and is a nice change of pace. Although we did not get to enjoy the Botanical Gardens guide tour, we are definitely doing it next time.
Overall a wonderful little place.

Room Tip: The rooms with the bay view are nicer and bigger. They are more expensive of course but may be wort...
