We spent five nights at this resort and found it to be very nice in spite of all of the negative reviews. The room was small, but adequate and the King bed was extremely comfortable. The food at Gus's Grille was outstanding. We had the opportunity to meet Chef Tony on our first night. We were pointing at something another diner was served and before we knew it Chef Tony came out, introduced himself and told us he was sending out some appetizers for us to try and that he would be back to give us an explanation of the foods. We had never tried fried yucca before or the plantains which were prepared quite differently than we have had at other restaurants. When our bill came, there was no charge for the delightful appetizer plate. The wait staff there was very friendly. Too many of them to mention my name. The service at the pool was also excellent. Our favorite by far, was Matilde. One note about this resort ...make sure you reserve a room with a "Bay View". Otherwise, you are looking out on the highway. If you like swinging in a hammock, there were lots of them to choose from. Sunsets anywhere on the property were outstanding. Overall, we found it to be a wonderful place to relax.

Room Tip: You must choose rooms with a Bay View.

My husband and I spent a week here. We've been here umpteen times and love the place. Marriott has replaced all of the mattresses in the rooms with Simmons Beautyrest, and they are wonderful! The mattress took all my back pain away! In fact, we are hoping to find the same model and buy one for our home. We had a bay view room where the view was spectacular. We usually eat at the many local restaurants instead of the hotel, since hotel food is notoriously mediocre. However, we had dinner at Breezer's one evening and were pleasantly surprised to find the food really good. Also need to make mention of some folks--Mario, Adam, and Lena at Breezer's really make you feel welcome and are fun to talk to. Winsome (at breakfast) is always lovely. Also, even though the weather was hot, sitting under a thatched canopy at the beach with the constant sea breeze was delightful.

However, I do need to make mention of some items:
-One of the bartenders at the Tiki Bar needs a more customer-centric attitude. We ordered lunch and it took about a half-hour to get it. When we asked about lunch, his attitude was that it always takes twenty minutes and it is what it is. Food at Breezer's came very quickly. Isn't the food from the same kitchen?
-I mentioned the wonderful mattresses. However, to get into the bed takes an effort. They are a bit too high. I did mention it at the front desk, and they agreed that they have heard and need to address it.
-The women's bathroom at the pool is in great need of improvement. There is a very unpleasant odor, the inside of the door was dirty and sticky (a couple of days into the trip, they painted over it) and it's an old door and really should be replaced. The bathroom is dingy and dark, and there is a broken something on the wall that should be replaced.

Please take these comments as suggestions for improvement. Managing a resort is different from managing a hotel. The customer at a resort expect ongoing service, whereas in a hotel, it's an in-and-out transaction. The guests stay longer in a resort and spend more hours on the property, and at negatives would be more noticeable. We really did have a lovely time and will be back. I'm sure that the management will address our concerns...they always do.

Room Tip: We had room 401 with a king bed and gorgeous view.

We spent three nights here at the end of a holiday with friends driving through the Florida Keys. We'd already stayed in Marathon and Key West and chose this hotel because of Key Largo's proximity to Miami for our return flight.

When we checked in, I asked if we could have a room other than one facing Highway 1, as I'd already heard these could be noisy. I was told the hotel was completely full and there were no other rooms they could give me, which was a disappointment. The hotel block in which we stayed (Rooms 223 and 224) is not attractive at all. It has a motel type feel to it, with long outdoor corridors off of which are the rooms. The rooms themselves also need a major refurbishment. They are painted in yellow and green, with very dark furniture, and net curtains at the windows (presumably because of people passing to and fro in the corridors) which let in very little light. I think my biggest disappointment was the fact there was no balcony, so once you were in your room that was it, no fresh air! If you're lucky enough to get a room in the block that faces the beach, they do have balconies and I'm sure are much better and brighter.

As for the rest of the hotel, we enjoyed drinks at the Tiki Bar, which does have nice views. We had a very nice meal at Gus' Grill on our first night but breakfasts here were not so great in our opinion, although they do have some very friendly staff who always made an effort to greet you etc.

The beach area is man-made but pleasant enough, although it's small so the sunbeds are really close together. However, despite being told the hotel was full (??), luckily there was always lots of sunbeds available. We enjoyed seeing the iguanas on the beach (although couldn't believe that some people thought it OK to feed them with vegetable/potato crisps!!).

All in all, we were more than ready to leave when we did (which is in complete contrast to how we normally are when on holiday) so I do think something's lacking here. Maybe a complete refurbishment would change things.

Room Tip: Go for one with a balcony and sea view.

After driving down from Orlando we used the Marriott for a couple of days rest before heading for key west. The room had a lovely view over the beach and gulf(Room 201), the furnishings were a little dated but the room was clean the beds were firm but comfortable, slept like a log, free wi-fi, a safe big enough for a laptop and all your other valuables. Free parking and plenty of underground spaces to keep your car out of the sun on the long hot days. We had a deal inclusive of buffet breakfast which was very good with an excellent eggs to order station, all with a sea view. The happy hour (or 3!) at the tiki bar was a lively place but stop for the sunset it's a great place to have a mojito and watch the sun set (check out my photo) with the sound of steel drums in the background, the food is also nice and good value for money as far as hotel food normally goes. The whole resort was nice friendly and relaxing and was a perfect place to sit around for a couple of days.

We just spent three nights at this resort. It must be off season as the place was quiet, although it livened up a bit by Friday. The room was clean, with the color scheme of lime and lemon making it look like a Key Lime pie! The pool was also clean, and the food was good. The breakfast buffet is very expensive for what you get...the usual buffet fair for $17.
The only downside is that the hotel is Ina busy road and the noise of the traffic cannot be avoided.

I stayed at the Marriott in Key Largo for 3 nights. The resort is very nice and well maintained. The rooms are generous and well appointed. We had a bay view room and the sunsets were spectacular. Drinks were good but weak, and the resort food was good as well. The problem with the resort was the bed in the hotel room. We had two queen beds in our room. They were like lying on a stack of plywood. I like a softer bed but these were rocks. To add insult to injury the pillows just were flat and the size of couch decoration pillows.. I did not get one good night of sleep, which then impacts all other aspects of your stay. In all, if they fixed the mattress issue, i would give the resort 4 stars out of 5. Strengthen the drinks and you get five, based on the bang for the buck. On a side note, Sundowners, and Encore were great dinner spots. Try them.

The room was great. The balcony overlooking the water was really nice. We ate on-sight as well as at another restaurant a short walk toward the bridge. We captured some beautiful sunsets as well as a wicked lightening storm. There was surprisingly not that much to do in Key Largo itself. But it was relaxing.

Room Tip: water view
