“If You Came here to Relax and Fish, You've Come to the Right Place”
Reviewed May 3, 2016 for a stay in April 2016

This was a perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of a big city, and we enjoyed our almost two-week stay immensely. The owner, Mr. Nestor Loredo, has put in much love, thought, and consideration into this property to make it enjoyable and comfortable for his guests. Everything was thought out down to the minutest details. The place and the territory around it (the dock, tikka hut + little “private beach”) is rather spacious and very clean. The AC functions flawlessly and is easy to operate, the bed in the bedroom is comfortable, the kitchen amenities are diverse, with dishes, frying and sauce pans, knives to clean your fish, etc., you name it. There’s plenty of hot water in the shower, the fridge is large and cools well. Your car will be parked right next to your porch and will always stay in the shade.

Thank you for the Winn Dixie card, Nestor, it sure has saved us a few bucks on groceries and stuff. Also, the detailed instructions provided by you have served their purpose, and we didn’t really have to ask any questions. It’s all there, including the operation of the gate to the property, the TV, and the most reliable and ingenious waste disposal system (you take your garbage out the gate and throw it in the dumpster). Nestor is very responsive to his guests’ needs and requests. We had a small issue with the range late night upon arrival and emailed Nestor. He was at the property first thing in the morning (“I can't bear the thought of leaving my guests without breakfast”) and fixed it personally.

We came here to relax and fish, and we were not disappointed. Fish is plenty but catches depending on the weather, pressure, and time of day, normally better towards the evening and after dark. Pinfish (yummy, no matter what size), grunt (easy to tell, it has red mouth and produces funny sounds) is galore, Mangrove snapper (!), but be careful with those, they are not called ‘snappers’ for nothin’. If you hold the fish in one hand and your other hand or any part of your body is within its reach, it will snap at you and bite your finger or whatever. I also caught a decent size catfish (dinner for two) and a gorgeous triple tail fish (two dinners for two, this fish is great eating, wow).

You may also hook up an occasional huge blue or stone crab, but I suggest you’d rather not mess with those. If you are not extra careful taking it off the hook (your best bet is cut the line, but don’t come too close to his claws!! The s.o.b. will reach out instantaneously and mutilate you even if you wear thick protective gloves).

For bait, use squid and/or live shrimp you can buy at Winn-Dixie, Publix, or Fish Bait House (all within 7-10 minutes north). For the snapper perch, use rounded hooks #1. Snappers are great eating, too. They come in varying sizes, but they all taste the same.
One great thing about fishing here is that you (almost) never have a snag in spite of the weeds. Even if you do, you can always retrieve your rig by pulling gently on the line. It will come free in 99.9% of the cases. This is not like at Dania Pier in Miami or White Street Pier at Key West, where you leave most of your tackle (and a lot of $$) on the ocean floor.
The fish cleaning station is a blessing. You’ll also find buckets to fetch water, ropes, a net to help retrieve larger fish, containers for live bait, etc. Washing the counter thoroughly each time after cleaning the fish or cutting bait is a piece of cake, with plenty of water (both sea and fresh) right at hand.

The best bite at this time of year (mid-April) was in the evening hours and after dark (9 or 10 PM in April). The guy on the property to our right hooked up a small barracuda three times, but never managed to land it (the fish took him into the weeds and snapped his line each time). If you feel a sharp tug and your hook is suddenly missing as if cut off with scissors, you know who the culprit is. You will also pull out an occasional sea monster like a puffer, etc. Those ugly critters are scary as hell but probably harmless; still, avoid grabbing them with your bare hands.

The water in the channel is always crystal clear in spite of the wind or weeds. There’s often a strong current (in varying directions), so I wouldn’t recommend swimming out too far, you’ll find yourself on other people’s property in no time. Good exercise swimming against the current, actually, often without moving an inch forward. This is on your own risk, you must be a good swimmer.

We can't wait to come back to the pirates and snappers next year.

“Relax & Enjoy!”
Reviewed January 23, 2015 for a stay in January 2015

Great place! Quiet and out of the busy town area of Key Largo. Nice outside area & water view.
Great area to just stay & relax or take the short drive to Key Largo.
Nice alternate to the big box condo. Nestor gave us great information about the area. He was easy to work with & wanted us to enjoy his property. He even left us a discount grocery card. We were given excellent directions & everything we need to get into the property. It is very clean & comfortable. We really enjoyed the outside area by the water.

“Outdoor amenities and privacy made this rental superb!!”

The tiki hut grill area /hammock/ fish cleaning station & just overall outdoor appearance made this rental a wonderful place to stay! Enjoyed the view everyday with the ability to cook meals or go out to eat. Drove to Key West for the day but still got to enjoy the quieter Key Largo. Only recommedation is to provide an extra set of sheets for master bedroom for longer stays - Overall stay was excellent - Again we fish, camp & love the outdoors - if you love sunshine & outdoors this is the place for you!!

Hi Sandra…….

Thank You for your entry.

Sandra stayed with us for three (3) nights.

For our long term Guests we do offer Housekeeping Services for an additional Fee. With the Guest selecting the frequency.

With regards to Bedding, unsolicited, the mattress at this Property was changed earlier this year with a new and rather pricy mattress. However, as we have found in this Business, Bedding is extremely subjective. What may be comfortable for us, is not necessarily comfortable for someone else.

Nevertheless, over the years we have learned to modify how a mattress may feel; either providing additional firmness or additional softness. However, the Guest does need to let us know in order to adjust the mattress accordingly.

This was an awesome and quaint place for myself , wife and 91/2 month old baby girl. Our arrival time was quite late into the evening , but we kept incontact with Nestor( who manages the property) who give us excellent instructions upon arrival. It is as pituresque as the pictures posted. The exterior of the property disguises a trailer very well. The landscape is puncuated with bougainvillea plants , coconut trees ( within your hands reach)and various tropical brush. The deck is as pictured , with a hammock and a fish cleaning area . The tiki hut has a lighted fan a bbq gas grill; and a table with chairs. . The lounge chairs are present and yes they are facing the waterway. We brought our own umbrella, the property does not have one but has a base for it. He living room views are amazing! Especially watching daybreak .You can watch the tide come and go and plan your fishing day steps away.. The kitchen had all we needed to cook the crabs we bought and the fish we caught. Cold fridge and clean. The living area is not exactly child proof , but we knew that and brought a day crib which solved our problem. The T.V and furniture is dated but did the job for a 4 day stay. All lights worked where needed , included outside . Since its a gated property this security was not a major concern .Bed was same as the sofa.. A.C did its job cold . Bath was good with excellent hot water... Sometimes a bit too well. Wifi worked but was slow at times. Pool was close by within the community , only 4ft depth heated and jets which did its job well for us. Shoping is close by within a few miles for windixie ,bait ect. The fish house is excellent and the hideout for breakfast! We cooked most of our meals and enjoyed the property.

Now for the not so good stuff.

1. Mosquitoes! Bring all your
good stuff, thermacell , Deepwood deet40 , buy all you can afford! You will need it for the outdoors if the wind is not blowing. I live in FL , but this was unbearable!
2. Very musty smell of the linens provided for the bedding ..
3. A.C vents and ceiling need to be cleaned for dust. Living room A.C could use a replacement , due to the fact at peak daytime heat it struggles to maintain cold air on lowest settings, but later in the day it gets better. Note it was not a major concern , we are FL residents.

For only only three things that I could think of as negative , one which the owners can not control due to nature , we would recomend this to those who love camping but enjoy certain comforts. Perfect for couples and no for family with younger kids. Remember it is cheaper to stay here than at a nearby hotel and you get to enjoy all of the above mentioned.

We own this Property......

And it does enjoy a 90% Occupancy Rate year around. This is our First Guest Review on FlipKey.

During the Rainy Season, even though Monroe County does a very good job of Mosquito Control, we do recommend the use of Deep Woods OFF - repellent.

We will note, some are more sensitive to others as to Mosquitoes.

With regards to the Linens Package, we do provide Fresh Linens, between Guests. And when the Property is not Scheduled to have Guests we do not set them.

We do place them in-place within 6 Hours of arrival.

As it pertains to the A.C.s interesting perception, we did abandon the A.C.s provided with the Unit as these did not provide adequate Cooling and were rather noisy.

We opted to Mini-Splits which we over-sized for the Cooling requirements needed at the Property and are extremely quiet.

In this Property as the main point of entry is the Sliding Glass Doors in the Living Room, if you are coming in and out while leaving the Doors Open......well it is going to get a little warm in the Living Room.
