My husband and I stayed at this hotel mid March 2013 for a couple nights. The hotel is close to John Pennekamp state park and has a publix / k-mart near by. The staff were friendly and gave us coupons for a couple resstaurants on the water. The hotel is clean with nice landscaping and private beach area for relaxing by the water to enjoy the sunset. Theres also a nice heated pool!

A few things we didnt like were :
- the beds were a little hard for our liking.
- the shower couldn't be turned on without stepping completely in (which meant freezing cold water at first)
- no bath tub.

Room Tip: Choose a room in the back! Closer to the water.

We are getting married in the Keys later this year and needed somewhere reasonable to stay for our one night trip. All the other hotels in the area were over $300/night for nothing special. I'm not sure if the property itself is new or just re-modeled, but either way it's one of the nicer places we have stayed at in the upper Keys. The grounds of the hotel and rooms are kept very clean and the staff was super friendly. It has a very tropical decor and you really feel like you are on vacation when you walk around. A lot of the other properties in the Keys are dated so it was refreshing to stay somewhere a little more modern.

When we first walked down to the beach we saw two manatees swimming around in the water. The beach area itself is a good size and has palm trees everywhere. There is bar located between the pool and the beach which is a neat thatched roof, a good place to relax and have cocktails. The bartender has a gorgeous parrot named Mango that will come sit on your shoulder.

The room was spacious and clean with a fridge and a wet bar. There was a little patio that overlooked the pool/bar area. The rooms on the other side of the hall had patios that opened up to the parking lot, so if you stay here get a north facing room for a better view.

We would stay here again, great value

Room Tip: Ask for a room that overlooks pool or beach otherwise your view will be a parking lot

This is the second time we have stayed at this Hampton Inn located on the Gulf side of the highway. It's a little tucked away, but look for mile marker 102, just south of the large concrete tower. The staff has been friendly and attentive both times. I love their little beach with the Tiki Hut where you can watch the fantastic Florida sunsets. The bartender at the hut is a great local guy who is a classic live-on-a-boat seaman with his colorful parrot, Mango, who makes great Bahama Mamas. The breakfast is a good added value, and they have a small separate building for a well-equipped fitness center. Our room both times has been on the bottom floor facing their colorful garden, beach, and pool. Great view. This hotel is a great place to stay for scuba diving in the area or transiting to Key West. My only issue was that the wireless internet was weak and barely usable. But I considered that minor issue compared to the great location, view, and service. This is definitely the first choice for my family and I when we're in the area.

Room Tip: I would always try to get a room on the pool side. Great view of the gardens, Tiki Hut, and beach.

We stayed at the Hampton Inn for one night as part of a trip down the keys and I really wish we could have stayed here longer. The hotel really does deserve it's high rating.

Location:
We managed to drive past the entrance as it's not that obvious so just look for a very large concrete tower which is just before the hotel as you head south. There are lots of restaurants just a short drive away and a Publix supermarket close by as well.

Hotel:
Overall, the hotel was very pleasant, well-maintained and very clean. The communal areas were very pleasant and the rooms were great. The rooms were a very good size - we had a sofa and a desk area with a balcony. The decor was really nice and the room just felt really clean and well cared for.

Amenities:
There is a small beach at the hotel and a tiki bar. Sadly we didn't visit the Tiki bar but it looked good when we saw it the next day. There is also a fitness centre in a free-standing building which has modern, well-maintained equipment. There is also a laundry room and the reception staff will sell you washing powder if you need it.

Breakfast was a buffet and there was plenty of choice and good quality.

Customer service:
One of the great things about this hotel is the customer service. Everyone we encountered, from cleaners to reception staff were very friendly and helpful. The hand-written note from the Manager on arrival in the room was also a very nice touch and made you feel as if the staff really do care about their guests.

Keep up the good work!

Stayed here for a weekend and we were pleasantly surprised at what a cute place this was. It doesn't look like much from the parking lot but it sits right on the bay and has a small beach where you can sit in lounge chairs or take a swim. The sunset is beautiful here too. There is also a nice heated pool and tiki bar. The free buffet breakfast was a nice bonus also and even though it was fairly crowded it was kept neat and clean and well stocked. The women at the desk were also super friendly and helpful! We would definitely stay here again.

I am generally a big fan of Hampton Inn but this one is an exception. I paid $249 to say one night in room 228 and was thoroughly disappointed. The air conditioner didn't work and the room didn't have the freshness that I usually see at Hampton Inn. The shower had that "cheap hotel sticky shower floor" feel.

The worst of the experience was waking up to see blood streaks on the pillow case (bed bugs?). Next, I opened up the single serve coffee pot and found it already full of water with hundreds of small bugs floating around. I freaked! I suggest passing this place by!

Stayed with my husband in room 226 overlooking the pool. King room with sofa bed and desk area. Clean! Bed is wonderful! Staff is friendly on check-in with 10% discount for local restaurant, cookies and coffee in lobby :) Free breakfast is a plus. Free parking too and fitness ctr. Shame on you Marriott. All this and dolphins, manatee, grouper and blowfish in the lagoon! I wish they had a restaurant, but they had a funky local with a macaw that set up a tiki bar. Don't miss Mrs. Macs for great food and service about a mile south. My daughter and son in law came for two days from the Gulf Coast and loved it too!
