I took my 8 year old nephew here as part of our summer vacation. As with most kids he's infatuated with Winter, star of the movie Dolphin Tale. So after seeing Winter in Clearwater, we drove to Key Largo to swim with the dolphins. Very much worth the drive. We started off in a large group for a 45 minute dolphin talk about the facility and dolphin anatomy. All the while the dolphins were swimming behind us. After the talk, my nephew and I were assigned a dolphin, Grace, and a trainer, Todd, and paired with a couple from Kansas. Todd and Grace gave the four of us their undivided attention -- well Grace swam off a couple of times to play with her pal Zoe, but that was part of what made Dolphins Plus so endearing. The dolphins are not made to "play" if they don't want to. Grace always came back after a couple laps and we continued where we left off. Each small group stayed in the water as long as it took to complete a training session with their assigned dolphin. We were never rushed.
I had made reservations in advance for the Structured swim and the photo CD. While I thought the price of the photo CD was steep, I ordered one believing this a once in a lifetime experience. It was worth the money. We received a CD of 144 pictures -- all of them of high quality. We were allowed to look at the photos in the lab while they burned the CD. And they inlcuded stock photos of all the dolphins at their facility which was a nice addtion to the CD. As an alternative, you could ask the other people in your small group to take photos of you in the water if they were willing. Or if there's a person in your party not swimming, they could take photos as well.
A great experience. Highly recommended.
