“Tooled around in a kayak.”
Reviewed February 18, 2013

The weather was questionable on our last day so we stayed close to our room in key largo and rented kayaks at the park. Prices were reasonable and there's enough to do there to keep occupied for an afternoon or a full day.

“You simply MUST visit Pennekamp!”
Reviewed February 18, 2013

If you are any type of water enthusiast, admirer, or ever enjoyed watching "Flipper" you simply must visit John PenneKamp. Even if only to say you've been there. The Glass Bottom Boat trip is FANTASTIC! They have done a wonderful job of making the park, docks and boat(s) wheelchair accessible. If you are in a wheelchair (and not diving) you can go out on a dive boat for free if you are accompanying other divers in your party.

“Glass bottom boat ride from hell.”
Reviewed February 17, 2013

Spent (2) days on vacation in the Key Largo.
This attraction was close( 5 miles) to Ocean Pointe Suites, where I was staying.
Also had internet coupon for $5.00 off per person at 9:15am boarding.
For $18.00/PP for 3.5 hour boat ride out( 7 miles) to the coral reef seemed like a good value.
Before boarding, they promote purchasing "motion sickness"pills at $11.00 each. We chose to try our luck, thinking, how bad could the waves be? Then they mentioned it again about 30 minutes later.
After starting off smoothly, we made it out to the reef. The waves were 4'6'ft and for 45 minutes, you were hanging on for dear life.People were grabbing "vomit" bags conveniently located attached to wall. When you were inside the boat looking at the small fish,it was stuffy. No air, cramped. With the high waves made the boat rock, and make everyone feel queasy.
Let me say, I am glad to have not been sick, but will be a boat ride I will never forget.

Good Afternoon,
We thank you for your patronage and input.
Our Boat Captains top priorities on all types of tours are Passenger Safety and Comfort.
I would like to review some of the information that was provided in your review.
The posted price for the Glass Bottom Boat Adult Boarding Pass is $24.00 plus tax, for all three Glass Bottom Boat Tour Times.
If, you utilized the pennekamppark.com internet coupon, the 9:15am price is reduced to $19.00 per Adult Fare plus tax for the 2.5 hour boat tour to Molasses Reef.
At the Glass Bottom Boat Reservation Counter, we first make the potential passenger aware of the estimated Sea Conditions.
We have the Glass Bottom Boat Sea Condition sign positioned, adjacent to the Glass Bottom Boat Tour Information Signage. These signs are located right next to a chart that summarizes the wave height and relate it to a descriptive word(s). In the same area we also have two large pictures, one of the vessel and the other is of the viewing wells.
As per the conditions described by you, we would have posted 4-6 foot seas and described it as “rough”.
As part of our Boarding Pass protocols we identify the “motion sickness” pills sitting on the reservation counter. We have three different price points and brands. There is a pack of two generic brand pills for $0.93 plus tax, a Bonine 8-pack box for $7.95 plus tax, and the Dramine (Less Drowsy) 8-pack box for $10.95 plus tax.
During the Glass Bottom Boat Boarding Safety briefing, prior to boarding all passengers, we also mention the Sea Conditions as well as the availability of the packet of two generic brand pills sold on the vessel for $0.93 plus tax.
During the winter time season, we recommend that all passengers closely review the Sea Conditions prior to participating in this tour.
Again, Passenger Safety is top priority next to Passenger Comfort.
However, it is difficult to assess all 130 passengers comfort level.
So, it is the Tour Boats Captains decision to assess both of the goals and make the on-water decisions to insure a proper experience.
We hope that you are able to visit us again, during more comfortable Sea Conditions.

Recently I went snorkeling with my husband to the John Pennekamp State Park. We chose the extended tour, which was well worth every penny, no pun intended. The people in charge, were very professional, experienced ,and fun. I felt very safe though out our travels. We were able to see many beautiful, tropical fish, an experience you don't want to miss! The water temperature was 78 degrees, cold for natives, but warm to a New Yorker. We were lucky, beside my husband, there was only one other couple snorkeling, it was as if we chartered our own boat, lovely! The captain said the day was on the windy side, but he took us to 2 reefs, protected from the winds, making our visibility perfect. Thank you Captain Billy Joel.

“Great for All”
Reviewed February 16, 2013

Great park! My wife and I took in the Glass Bottom Boat ride. Any day on the water is a great day. The staff aboard ship were extremely knowledgeable and fun, fun, fun. The tour itself lasted about 2.5 hous. Saw plenty of sea creatures, ie. nurse shark, sea turtles, moray eels, etc. The reef was incredible to see so up close ....... and without getting wet!
Highly recommended for a leisurely side trip!
$5.00 off coupons available for the 9:05am tour! Will cover the cost of park admission.
