We took the boat tour to the reef in February......the boat was full, but not overly crowded. The captain and crew went out of their way to make sure that people took preventative medicine if they even THOUGHT they might get sick. I would imagine that they learned that from experience! It was an enjoyable ride to and from the reef, and the mates did a very nice job of explaining the sites along the way. Once out on the reef, we all went below deck and viewed the fish and plant life from the windows in the bottom of the boat. The captain did a very nice job of keeping us over interesting sites and colorful fish, while the mate told us where to look and what we were seeing.

On the ride back, I was the only one who stayed seated at the windows below and viewed the bottom of the sea rushing past. It was awesome! Unfortunately, I saw some beer bottles and litter as well as turtles, sponges and sea life.

I would go again, but I would hope for a rougher ride!!!!!

This is a wonderful state park. Admission was $10 for four people in a car which covers your stay in the park for the whole day. Beaches are lovely and were not crowded in early February. The highlight of our day was the Glassbottom boat trip out to Mosquito Reef. The crew were very knowledgeable and clearly explained everything we were seeing with lots of information about birds, fish, environment and the boat we were on. We were lucky enough to see a nurse shark, a barracuda, numerous gorgeous fish (some fish' gender can change!), also learned more about the mangroves which line the keys as well as the bird life. The boat trip was $23.00 plus tax but we had a coupon which applied to all of us. Lunch was available in the Concession building and the food was very good.

My husband went snorkeling and I did the glass bottom boat. The boat ride was awesome, winding the the mangrove channels out to the ocean. We even saw sea rays swimming around. The staff was very concerned about all passengers comfort! They were checking on guests to make sure they weren't getting sea sick, etc. Once out to the reef the Captain did an amazing job hovering over the reef and we saw everything to include a free swimming eel and a nurse shark. Our crew was equally excited when she saw them and knew the names of every type of fish, coral, etc. It was a very fun trip and resonably priced at about $25.
My husband's snorkeling was equally enjoyable and resonably priced at $40 including all rented equipment. His crew wasn't as informative as mine was. We would definitely do both of these trips again. The park itself is beautiful and has a small aquarium inside too. Both trips were about 3 hrs each. Showers/changing houses are avail.

Miraculously, we found a 3-day campsite on the spur of the moment (must have been a cancellation or change of plans) so stayed in the campground. Took the glass bottom boat ride out to the coral reef which was excellent. Even though the water was very choppy that day, the captain was able to keep us where the action was. Saw lots of fish, including barracuda, a nurse shark and a sea turtle! The staff was very knowledgable and friendly. The park is delightful - a beautiful aquarium, great swim beaches, and nice trails. Will stay there again if we can get a spot to camp.
