I have always been intrigued by alternative housing. Container homes, tiny houses, eco-houses, etc. The concept always seemed so logical, but is such a stark departure from traditional housing it can be tough to actually visualize what it would be like to live in something like you see in a tv show or online.

For my wife and I who spent a week at Headwaters this could not have been a more awesome introduction. Before talking about the home I think it's important to say that where it is located is absolutely perfect. If you walk down to the river at any time during the day you are guaranteed to see a bunch of fish and some turtles swimming. It doesn't matter where you look on the property you are staring at lush vegetation. The one thing you are guaranteed not to see is people. This is a retreat in every sense of the word, and it is so fantastic. You can truly get away here. However, you're not in the middle of nowhere, you are still only about a 10-15 minute drive away from the beautiful local beaches, or the Jupiter lighthouse, or Busch wildlife center, or whatever other interesting thing you have in mind in Jupiter. I have never been anywhere like it before, where it seems like you are a world away, but are actually still very close to everything. It really helped make our trip amazing to be able to go from being your stereotypical tourists taking in the sights, to by ourselves whenever we wanted solitude and nature.

We loved the container house. For us this is something we could live in on a daily basis. We really liked how open the kitchen/living area is. We loved being able to look out through the large sliding doors down to the river. All the couches, beds, chairs, etc were very comfortable. They did a really great job of keeping a lot of cool container related things in the house. There is still some exposed metal on the inside where you can see the container number. On the container doors they still have a metal tag with all information about. The coffee table is made from a piece of container that we presume was cut out to make space for a window or door. It seems like wherever possible they re-used or upcycled something to make something else. For example all of the furniture outside is made from pallets.

If you have an interest in container housing come check this out. It is truly a sight to behold. It is so much fun driving up to the containers knowing this is going to be your home for a while. You will come away impressed with what they were able to do.

If you aren't someone interested in checking out a space like this. If you want somewhere to stay in Jupiter that is close to everything, but also away from all the tourism, traffic, and people that Florida is known for, especially "in" season, this is what you want.

This place feels like home. There is a warmth and serenity in the surroundings that creates such peacefulness - you couldn't ask for more. The smell of the fauna, the sunset and the moonrise, the river running by... these are simple pleasures but so vital to a happy mindset. The container itself has been so well adapted, comfortable and thoughtfully laid out, but still completely unobtrusive to the environment. We spent a beautiful couple of nights, with good friends, good food (having a kitchen is such a luxury for spontaneous cookups) and good tequila around the fire in the garden. The patio area is perfect for yoga practice, and although we didn't have enough time to do it all, I know there would be some epic running trails / cycling / kayaking to be enjoyed. Our host is kind, laid back and offered thoughtful information about what was available in the surrounding area and the property itself. I cannot wait to return, and look forward to witnessing the growth of this project.
