“Excellent seafood in a casual setting”
Reviewed May 23, 2013

I have been a "regular" diner at Schooners for more than 25 years. Throughtout that time, the high quality food and consisitently good service have never wavered. Most of their seafood is caught locally and is fresh daily. Two must haves are the cobia and the wahoo whenever they are available. Always excellent are the grouper and the mahi-mahi which can be ordered many ways including a simple and tasty lemon butter sauce. Among the appetisers, the Oysters Rockefeller is one of my personal favorites while the conch chowder is marvelous.. For dessert, the key lime pie is outstanding.

While the restaurant does not have a water view, the pleasant atmosphere, excellent food and supurb service make this restaurant a popular choice for locals and out-of-town visiters all year
long.

“Nice homey "Cheers" place”
Reviewed May 16, 2013

We went to Schooners while returning from a short road trip. It is a nice, small place, very comfortable with a "Cheers" feel to it with all the locals. Nice happy hour with $1 drafts was a good find. There are several other places in the vicinity and this is a good place to start. We just had a couple of appetizers (conch fritters and mahi quesadilla), and they were very good and reasonably priced. The service was great.

“OVERLOAD”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

I guess the majority of folks love to eat food covered up with cream sauces...fried foods and overly seasoned foods. We are health conscious and like good quality food done simply. When you have a smaller menu, higher quality food and less garbage done to it...that is delicious clean eating and you don't mind paying a high dollar value for great clean food. Well, here at Schooners the price is charged, but it is not the place for clean, quality food! We had a half dozen Blue Point Oysters on the half shell and I have to say they we AMAZING! It went down hill from there...the spinach salad was sopped in a creamy dressing...the supposedly seafood stuffed poblano was full of rice, potato, carrot and cheese...the red snapper (???) was so overly seasoned it was almost inedible. This restaurant boasts FRESH seafood...the fish was frozen! No wine just water...$80.00 later we left with a big disappointment. Atmosphere was OK...not on the water. PS Waitress was the best!

“They need a bigger bar inside”
Reviewed April 14, 2013

This is a great place for happy hour drinks but it ends too soon. They could use a bigger bar. They have to many locals and the seats are taken too quickly. But there is usually a nice guy that will give you a seat. The food is excellent. No happy hour food, which is fine with me, they do not need to do it. Fried oysters are a must try ...if you like them. A plain hamburger is wonderful too. Fresh fish is always there. Been coming here for 20 years.
