“More than I expected......”
Reviewed August 5, 2013

There's more diversity than I imagined in the number of animals. The bears and panthers were unexpected and you could get fairly close too. The place is not too big, so my elderly mother with a cane could see all of it. Entrance is with free, but donations were appreciated. Some of the habitats were small and utilitarian, but this is run solely on donations, so the do the best they can with what they have - also their mission is to rehab, not entertain. We were there early, and can see all in 2 hours or less. In the afternoon there were interactive shows, but on a hot Floida summer day, we didn't want to wait.......

“Great place for kids and grandkids!!”
Reviewed August 3, 2013

This is a really great place to show visiting kids and grandkids the varied wildlife in the South Florida area. It's well laid out and clean, great wood chip trails through the wildlife displays. It's the most thorough exhibit of owls I've seen: great horned, screech, even the burrowing owls found only in our area. Raptors include all the hawks from this area, also bald and golden eagles. The large Florida panthers and bobcats are kid's favorites- little boys also seem to love the serpentarium, which features all the poisonous snakes and several of the non-poisonous found locally. They also seem to spend a lot of time admiring the alligators. Add in the raccoons, 'possums, skunks, deer, turkey, and several variety of turtles, and you've got a real smorgasbord of local fauna. There are nature trails for the kids who need a little exercise, and picnic tables for a family feast. The gift shop is air conditioned, has many unique gift items and books, and some additional wildlife exhibits including a stuffed local bear. Our great grandkids never get tired of going through it- first thing they want to do when coming down on vacation.
There's no required admission fee, but with the quality of the exhibits you'll want to contribute to the voluntary box.

“Great learning experince”
Reviewed July 31, 2013

This is a wonderful place the trails are easy to follow or you can meander anyway you like. The kids love it and you can take as long as you like. There are picnic tables so bring your coolers and take a break. There are a few beggars there while you eat. I hadn't been here for a while and they made a lot of improvements. Now we even have bears. The kids loved the marsh area and you can feed the turtles so take quarters for the food. We will be going back soon. If you find an injured animal this is the place to take it, if it can't be returned to the wild it will have a great home here. This is not a zoo but has many animals. I never knew Fla had river Otters til I came here several years ago. Take a time out and go see some wonderful creatures.

“A little oasis of wild Florida”
Reviewed July 31, 2013 via mobile

We live just a few minutes away from the Sanctuary but had never gotten around to stopping in. We decided to take the Gkids there and we all really liked it! It's free but you can make a donation going in. It's chock full of local flora and fauna including a board walk thru a cypress swamp, an aviary with all kinds Florida birds...large and small, turtles, reptiles, tortoises, foxes, eagles, bobcats and even a couple of beautiful Florida panthers. There is a really nice gift shop of which all the proceeds go to the Sanctuary. It only takes about 45 minutes to see and is a really nice place to stop on the your to or from a picnic.
