“The Good, the Bad, & the Ugly...”
Reviewed June 11, 2012

I'll start with the good and then get to the ugly in the end. I had to use the restroom before we sat. I waited to wash my hands only to ask the waitress who was powdering & primping if she wasn't washing her hands to move over some so I could. We had a 15 minute wait, so we grabbed some drinks at the bar (it was Happy Hour around 4:30 p.m.) and paid $5.25 for a draft Yeungling & house Pinot Grigio. Sat down in some Adirondack chairs out on the water and watched the boaters and SUP'ers go by. Once we sat we were greeted about 20 minutes later by our waitress who already had several excuses why she was late. Whatever, we are pretty laid back and weren't in any rush. We ordered some Smokehouse Sweet & Spicy wings. They came out in about 10 minutes. They were very yummy, but expect to taste them 3 hours later! Then we ordered another drink and waited for our meals...1 hour later! After seeing 2 tables that sat way after us get their food we said something to the waitress. She came back stating she doesn't know what is going on but the manager is yelling at the kitchen about it now. All I could think of was, "great - now they will hate us and spit in our food!" We finally got our Smothered Fish Burritos with tortilla chips, guacamole, sour cream, & salsa. It was very filling. We both could only finish about 1/4 of the burrito. In the end, they comped a glass of wine and we left with a meal for the next day (our leftovers). I wouldn't mind coming back for drinks and apps, but probably not for dinner and especially not for a first date!

“Restaurant you must visit”
Reviewed June 7, 2012

We found this place because we noticed how busy they were, checked this site saw the great reviews and pictures were intrigued and had to check it out. The ratings do not begin to describe how wonderful this place is. Make this a priority to visit

“Wonderful outdoor restaurant”
Reviewed June 6, 2012

We wait for the off season to try Guanabanas or go for cocktails in the high season. The wait times are horrific otherwise - imaginative local food set among the palms along the intracoastal. I have never been disappointed.

“Don't Be Fooled By the Hype”
Reviewed June 3, 2012

This place defines the term “tourist trap.” For reasons that remain utterly mysterious to me, even after two years in this town, Guanabana’s continues to be considered a “great” place despite the jacked-up prices, the nothing-out-of-the-ordinary food, and the snottiest, snarkiest, snobbiest crew of blonde bimbette servers that you will find anywhere in this county. Clearly, cup size is a more important employment qualification at Guanabana’s than are human warmth, intelligence, or ability to provide customer service. If you don’t mind that, you’ll be another of the zombie hordes that “love” this place. Guanabana’s is a typical tiki bar—the Florida kitsch version. There are a very few seats located along the waterfront (not that the view is all that striking – it’s a boating canal, folks), but you won’t get one if you aren’t a) very early or b) eating a meal. That’s right: You could spent $300 on drinks and appetizers, but they still won’t seat you at the water but will insist on putting you at one of the “indoor” tables beneath their faux-thatched roof. That’s only one of the place’s truly foolish and alienating “policies.” The drinks are underpoured and smallish; the prices are way high. The chairs/stools tend to be uncomfortable and are too low for the tables. All in all, it’s the kind of place to take your grandma if she’s never seen Florida before and is visiting from Dearborn, or a date – if your date superficial enough to enjoy watching you overpay for drinks with umbrellas in them. Skip Guanabana’s and go somewhere like Panama Hattie’s or the Square Grouper – the atmosphere is more relaxed, the crowd is trying less hard to be cool, and the rudeness factor from the help is a whole lot less.
