As an island resident, I have gone to Shuckers several times and am still confused by its appeal to folks,
I chalk it up to being the "only game in town", as for the most part it is the only bar/restaurant located on the ocean on south Huchinson Island.
The bartenders here have always been top-notch and vey friendly. In other reviews, everyone raves about the views from the outside bar, which I really don't get. If sitting at a table, you can hear the ocean but you certainly cannot see it, as the view is obscured by the dune in front of the restaurant. If sitting at the outside bar, ones back is to the beach and you can catch a few glimpses through the mirrored windows in fron of you.
The food is very typical bar-type food,,,,,decent but nothing special. There are far better choices within a few minutes drive over the causeway.
The crowd is a combination of tourists, retirees and some tired looking local folk. On weekends they have live entertainment, which is usually fairly good.
What is weird is the owner of the restaurant sits at the outside bar almost every night , drinking with a group bar flies. I have yet to be at anotherr reestaurant that I see that....perhaps that is why everything is so "average".
While it is an attractive place, and certainly convenient on the island (I have no idea why anyone would drive out to the island to go here), there are a number of restuarants just a short drive away with far better food and views!
