Steaks are first-rate, lobsters monstrous, wine cellar deep, seafood and fish souped up in spicy broth. The unexpected treats are root vegetables, lentils and smart spicing"

“Yummy "early bird" dinner”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 10, 2013

We took advantage of the early bird dinner Salt Rock offered and had a great time. We brought our 13 month old and were a little worried it would be to "fancy". However she had a great time looking around and loved the shrimp :) All the food was fantastic!

“Excellent Seafood & Service!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 8, 2013 via mobile

If you want for the freshest seafood, expertly prepared, then Salt Rock is for you. The atmosphere is casual, with great views of the Tampa side. Specialty drink concoctions were a bit on the too sweet side, but the food was worth the travel. One of the best seafood restaurants in Clearwater!

“2 lb Porterhouse keeps my husband coming every year!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 8, 2013

We cannot come visit my parents in Madeira Beach without making a stop at Salt Rock Grill! it is one of their favorite restaurants in the area too. We go for the earlybird dinner, which needs reservations, due to it's popularity, I ordered the chicken, my mom's favorite is the coconut shrimp (she orders it EVERY time), my dad is more adventurous and gets something different every time, but my husband is an avid steak lover, so he orders their 2 lbs porterhouse. Both visits it has been cooked to perfection! We definately recommend this and will be coming back!

“Bad experience”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 7, 2013 via mobile

Made 6pm reservation for Thursday three days in advance. We were sat half an hour later. Overall loud atmosphere. Got the beet arugula salad w goat cheese crouton which was delicious. It stopped there unfortunately. Ordered the 24 ounce porterhouse Oscar style (crap and asparagus on top) and a side of panko crusted shrimp. The shrimp was good. The steak was bloody red and we ordered it medium well. Had to keep sawing each piece as it was tough. Maybe had a couple pieces and gave up. The crab tasted chlorinated as well. The manager did not charge us for the steak which was very kind. We lost our appetite and did not order key lime pie which looked real good. I'm sure we had a random bad experience. The atmosphere and water views were real nice. They had a large drink menu too

“just ok”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 7, 2013

Maybe we've been watching too much Restaurant Impossible but we found our experience just ok. Although we're not even close to the senior set, we had read glowing reports via Yelp about their early bird dinners so we went last night since we had missed lunch and was hungry early. Menu confusing - 2 for $25 dinners, early bird specials and what we thought regular menu choices. Asked to sit outside and almost moved to inside with a burst of breeze that rattled our teeth but heaters outside made us stay. Waiters fought over our table and the snarly guy we ended up with was attentive when he remembered us. Other sweet girl who answered our questions before he showed up needs an apology - she was just doing her job being a "server". Chose what we wanted we thought off of regular menu-- pecan encrusted swordfish and surf and turf -- and were surprised they came with salad and a bite of dessert. Husband scraped off the pecan crumb coating (more coating than fish) and grumbled about wishing portions of his swordfish were larger. My lobster tail was perfectly sized and cooked although it's a bit difficult to cook small 2.5 oz. piece of beef medium rare and it was more medium than medium rare. We could have used a larger portion of protein for dinner and split an extra salad between us as we usually do off the regular menu and skipped the ramekin of canned peach pi filling with crumb/ice cream on top. Food overrated but liked the $3.50 early bird wine choices.
