This is our 3rd year going to the Indian Shores area. Our kids (teenagers) love it because it is where their friends are and it is close to Johns Pass - a good place to "hang out." We used to always go to the Santa Rosa area for spring break but unpredictable spring weather took us further south. Once again, we weren't disappointed. Weather was perfect.
Restaurants in the area are just ok. Keegan's is our favorite and we are never disappointed dancing at JDs (but don't go there for food). Slyce has good pizza and usually live music. There is a second location about 15 minutes away that is sometimes less crowded.
For the 3 years we have been going to Indian Shores, I have found it difficult to find a nice condo. Most have been dated and run down despite booking 8 or 9 months in advance. Beach Palms 404 had been updated and nicely decorated (not the typical flowery couch or beach decor) but, it was very dirty (crumbs and hair in the drawers, food splattered on the cabinets and walls, thick film of dirt and dust on the baseboards, in the corners and under furniture that was raised off the floor and therefore accessible to cleaning.) The grout around the tubs and bathroom base was also a little moldy. The rugs were all filthy and led me to believe the carpets in the bedrooms (yes, carpet) weren't clean either.
The light in the master bath is very dim so be prepared to use natural sunlight on the deck if you need good lighting. The blow dryer in the master bath barely worked (smelled like it was burning). The washer/dryers in these units are usually old but this washer had a really nasty smell. I had to wash everything on hot just to make it bearable and then rewash when I got home.
The unit had most amenities but no pancake turner or pizza cutter - 2 staples when cooking for kids!
Keys are required to get out to beach, in from beach and to access elevators (a different key). You only get 2 (and one elevator key) which made it kind of a challenge with teenagers going their own way during the day but usually there were other guests around to give you access.
Don't expect to be able to check in early or out late. The rental co said they'd call us when the unit was ready so we could get in (our flight arrived early in the morning). They never did. When we asked about a couple hour late check out they said they were too busy to accommodate.
