“Not My Kind of Place”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 4, 2006

After reading previous reviews felt give it a try, staff not really interested in dealing with you OK you paid in advance heres you key.

Room and kitchen area ok - but looked on to the decking inside - keep the cutains closed or every one can see in very depresing resturants OK but the hotel was almost deserted - staff in resturant saying we were the second couple in that night and everywhere almost deserted.

Walk to the beach OK but not what we expected whole area area around the hotel seems tired. Would not stop again expensive for what we got.

OVERBILLED BY $1,000. After pre-paying for the room on Orbitz the hotel still charged my credit card and it took two(2) weeks to get my money back.. I WILL NEVER STAY THERE AGAIN!!!

After reading several reviews we were slightly apprehensive about staying in the Holiday Inn, but this was unfounded. I booked the stay in May 2005 and was quoted $167 per night, but was only charged $100pn by the hotel group as the price had gone down. When we arrived the room they gave us we didnt like and asked if we could change. To do this the desk staff enrolled us in the priority club and gave us a harbourside view at no extra cost. Okay the hotel in general needs a lick of paint and a bit of an update but for the price you couldnt complain. Only two minutes walk to the beach, several decent restaurants within walking distance, and helpful staff.

My fiance and I were really looking forward to staying at this hotel based on the review and photos on this site but we were more impressed with the area than the actual hotel.

There is only one elevator for the entire hotel and it is shared by staff and guests. The elevator is small and slow. We almost always had to share it with a housekeeping cart which was uncomfortable while trying to bring our bags to our room.

The room itself seemed dirty and we were greeted by a large dying roach in the hallway which made my stomach turn. I was uncomfortable the entire stay because I was waiting to come across more bugs. The private balcony was quite dirty as well, particularly the siding and patio furniture which I didn't feel comfortable sitting on.

The view was nice of the marina, however. We also enjoyed the food and atmosphere at nearby Crabby Bill's, and the hotel is within walking distance to a fairly un-crowded public beach.

While the hotel staff was friendly, I wouldn't stay here again. I found it too pricey for what it offered.

I was here in August and am returning in November. I have found this to be my "favorite" hotel. I was raised in the IRB area and very much enjoy the low key, key west style of the hotel. Rooms are clean, spacious and comfortable. This hotel offers many room types from a typical hotel room w/kitchenette to large multi-room suites. The best kept secret is the "Angry Chicken" served at Jimmy Guana's and the smaller private pool far from the kids.

We stayed here early in October, in a King Suite. For the money $170 / night we feel that it was fantastic. The room was huge, set out over 2 floors, and had glass sliding doors leading out onto a balcony overlooking the inlet. The location is great, about 12 miles north of St. Pete beach and about 5 miles south of Clearwater. It manages to avoid the tourist trap feeling of both these areas but has all the restaurants nearby that you'll need from pizza to lobster.

The hotel has all the things a holiday maker would need, restaurants, bar, pool, laundry, etc.

It is about a five minute walk to the beach (public) and facilities on the beach are limited to sand dunes, but you're only a few miles south of Sand Key park which is a large public beach with everything else (parking, food, toilets etc).

If you're into boats then this is the place for you. It says Habourside and it means it.

If you want to make your own way to places then this hotel is ideal and Indian Rocks beach is quiet and unspoilt.

Arrived Sat 8pm ( 1am Uk time ) tired from the 2 1/2 hour drive from Sanford, asked if there were any inter-coastral rooms available but was told there would be a $250 up-grade fee which I declined, as I must have looked shattered the receptionist (who was extremely polite) told me that as the hotel wasn't overly busy that she would up-grade us anyway. FANTASTIC! Having a water view more than helped make our holiday and after seeing the rooms which were inside facing I would have probably ended paying the extra anyway....it's well worth it so take note! Room 141 is a good room to request. Watched the dolphins on a couple of occasions in the waterway and found a few shark teeth (they're black!) on the beach, they are hard to spot though so be patient! The hotel was quiet really but more than livened up at weekends with Americans just having a break. Jimmy Guanas is the place to hang out both day and night with live music most nights and good food. Didn't eat at brewmasters as never saw it open! Plenty or resturants within 5/10 min drive and a couple within walking distance. Clearwater 15 minute drive, Tampa 30 minute drive as with St Pete's. There are loads of beaches to choose from along the main road with mile markers.
LOVED IT!
