we arrived and thought, how cute!! the rooms that are exposed to the street are all clean and cheerful on the outside. when we were shown to our room " THE STUDIO" our jaws dropped. we should have just walked away and forfieted our deposit, however we have a small dog and it is not easy finding a place to accept her, and we are from michigan so were weary from the trip. we thought we would make the best of it.
i actually had to vacuum the ceiling as it had a black sooty dust stuck to the rough texture.i spent much of the day just making it acceptable.
the entrance to the "STUDIO" is dirty and depressing as well. the owner keeps his belongings in the front as well.
to make matters worse, the kitchenette is not functional. i tried to make breakfast and set off the alarm (no exaust). the room stays moist. my basement in michigan is mor comfortable.
we paid for three weeks and are leaving after two, cant take it anymore.

We of course remember this guests well. She requested inside and outside pictures of the particular apartment that we booked them in. We sent them. (this is the first time in 10 years someone has made this request)This was the coldest two months ever in Florida. Condensation on windows, (cold outside and warm inside) Betty Anne and I personally clean every apartment. I am not saying that we could not have missed something, but we take pride in our cleaning and typically people comment how clean the apartments are. Smoke detector going off when they cooked. Again this has happened before occasionally but we do not make the detectors only check in our log that they are working properly.

I just returned from spending 2 wk at the Sea Star and this is a great place for a vacation, had a 1 bedroom apart, and just across the street from the beach, owners are super nice and helpful. This is our 3rd trip to the Sea Star in three years, you can't beat it.

We spent a week here and got back last night. While at the Sea Star we were treated with respect and courtesy. The apartment was clean and neat when we got there and we were left alone all week unless we had a question or something. The beach, restaurants, recreation are all within walking distance, the library has computers to use. the owners looked for coupons for us to save money on things we wanted to do
The place is dated and each room is uniquely decorated by the owners. We did find one cockroach dieing in the bathroom. Bugs and lizards are a fact of life in Florida and if they bother you go to your happy place somewhere else. Florida has alligators to so they are around.
All kidding aside this was a good value and even with cleaning the apartment ourselves and only the one set of six towels we were very happy. In fact we looked at available rooms and apartments for our next stay at The Sea Star. Unless you are MR or MIS priss this place is fine.

After trailing around looking at some less than savoury places we hit on the Sea Star. What a little gem! It's quaint, comfortable, clean and has everything you could possibly need provided. We had the efficiency at the back and originally booked for three nights, but settled in and liked it so much we stayed an extra two. The owners were really friendly and made us very welcome. The beach is across the road and under the house are all the sun loungers, parasols, etc you need which you can borrow for the day. This was a much nicer stay than in some big chain hotel and incredibly good value. Would we go again? Absolutely!

We had stayed at the Sea Star last year (5/07) and while it was not the cleanest place, it has a great location right across the street from the beach, so we decided to try it again for this year's vacation.

I spoke to the owner several times prior to the trip and she assured me everything was fine and we would be getting the cottage we had asked for. When we arrived to check in, we were told our accomodations had been given to someone else. They offerred to give us another room.............in another location which was 10 blocks away from the beach!!! As we had wanted (and paid for!) a place near the beach, we refused. The owner's then became very nasty and only after much arguing did they refund our money.

No way to run a business!! If it had not been "off season" we would not have been able to get other accomodations at such short notice and been forced to stay there. I am sure that's what they were counting on when they double-booked. Honest errors certainly ocurr, however we spoke to the people in the cottage that we had booked and were told they were indeed already there at the time of my last phone conversation with the owner.

Although this complaint is almost two years old, I remember that we did make a mistake and double booked. We manage a few single homes in indian rocks beach and had offered a two bedroom house for the same price. We have placed people in this partiicular house before and have had good response. I don't remember aguing about giving money back, maybe I could have been more kind. I do not remember my response.

Our first visit was in 2002, as a gift from family. What a delightful
treat to have found this little bit of heaven on earth,,,.We have returned every year since and will be there 2 months in 2008. The resident owners, Bruce & Bettyann are wonderful hosts . caring..sharing... bring you into their circle of family & friends. Our ''DAISY'' is also a welcome guest.
I guess what folks want for vacations are as diversified as anything could be. We love the beach, shopping , trolley rides ,, golf,,fishing ... but most of all we have enjoyed every stay with our friends at Sea Star. Vacations are meant to be enjoyed.........and this is one very enjoyable motel.Try to find this type of living at the Jersey shore,-- not for this $$ and certainly not the friendships you will enjoy.

A new family tradition has begun. Friends recommended this hotel and were they ever right. The owners are very friendly and helpful. I grew up going to rustic beach motels and wanted my kids to have that same happy experience (not some sterile, 10 story hotel with 400 rooms). Both my boys (ages 6 and 9) and my wife have all voted to make the Sea Star our "go to" place.

My wife about had a meltdown when she read the one bad review, but we
persisted based on what our friends had told us and found a neat, clean 10 room operation. We didn't see any bugs (and that's hard to say when you live in Florida). The bathroom and kitchen were spic 'n span. My wife loved how the rooms were decorated (we were in a one-bedroom apartment). The furniture was what you would expect in a rustic motel, a bit dated, but comfortable. The boys loved sleeping on the sleeper sofa and on the rollaway.

The motel is a short walk from the beach and there are bathrooms and showers where you access the beach. It was all close enough to not worry if you forgot something in the room because you could zip back very easily.

The beach was clean and family oriented. Not a lot of shells, but we did find a few keepers.

All in all, it was a winner vacation (makes Dad look good). :-)
