This was our third trip to Homosassa. Our stay at the Homosassa River Retreat was very relaxing. The pool was cool and refreshing on a hot Florida afternoon. We had a riverfront unit with a full kitchen. It appears to be an older establishment and the room was very clean and comfortable. The view from our porch was very nice and we enjoyed colorful sunsets in the evening. We were there on the weekend and there was a constant parade of boats going up and down the river.

Couldn't have been in a better area. Tons of things to do within minutes. Property was clean but very dated and walls were paper thin. We were more the late night crowd but all our neighbors were up at the crack of dawn to golf, boat or snorkel...whatever else. We could hear every door and drawer open and close not to mention every word of every conversation. And NO ONE seemed to care about being quiet walking past our door. Would definitely return to the area, in fact have been back there for a beer but would not stay there. Kudos to the more than friendly and accommodating staff!

Thank you for leaving us your comments. We are very sorry to hear that your neighbors were a little on the loud side. We would love to have you come back to stay with us, one of our reservation specialist would be happy to assist in helping you pick a quieter location on the property or perhaps a date that would allow more privacy.
Hope to hear from you soon,

I stayed two nights at a ground level non waterview room in January and got the same room in March. While the walls are thin, and the floors above echo, everyone was quiet by about 9:30 PM.

Only real complaint is that in the far reaches..WiFi is iffy. A./C unit was not noisy.

Beds are good and supportive without being boards. Bedding is not fancy.

For $65 a night in a resort area . a good value

Room Tip: Upstairs but there are no elevators.

I love this place so much, the staff are all nice and very friendly, they make you feel more like a friend than a customer that comes and goes with the tide. Me and my wife have visited homosassa springs 3 times, once a year and have always stayed here. In my opinion it is the only place to stay if you want to be close to nature. We take out boat with us and use the dock provided by resort, it makes it fun to just hop on our boat and take a morning ride down the river passing monkey island on our way to see manatees and peaceful calm waters.
We always stay at the waterview rooms and I love it, clean and always smells good. The beds are a little hard but other than that no complains here. The balcony makes the morning coffee view do die for. I will return here every year with my wife and kids as long as we can. I highly recommend this place.

We stayed in a riverfront suite with a wonderful back porch and direct view of the river. Great view with lots of wildlife and activity on the water. It was really cold the 5 days we were there, so we didn't take advantage of the kayaks or rental boats - maybe next time. Our room was very clean with a comfortable bed and well stocked kitchen. We had everything we needed. Only complaint would be low water pressure in shower, no wifi, and extremely thin walls. We were on the first floor and could hear everything in the rooms above us and next door to us. But our neighbors were nice and once everyone went to bed, it was very quiet. We liked that there was a restaurant and bar on site - dined there for 3 nights and enjoyed the delicious local garlic crabs, crab cakes and homemade key lime pie. Walked down the street about 1/2 mile to The Freezer and had fantastic peel n eat shrimp. The monkey island was a lot of fun and we enjoyed watching them during our meals. We enjoyed our stay at the resort and look forward to returning during warmer weather!!

Room Tip: Get a room facing the river, it's a shame not to take advantage of the wonderful view while on v...

This was a great spot to spend spring break without the crush of people. Most of the people we saw were families, nature lovers, or older couples/groups. We stayed in a river-view villa, so we had a separate livingroom and full kitchen. We kept breakfast food in the room so we wouldn't have to dash out somewhere every morning.
The room itself was fair, though clean. My biggest concern was the shower - the tub was peeling its covering and the shower had poor water pressure. On our first day, it took two phone calls to get the water heater working properly.
We were happy to have the river-facing room. It was really nice to step out in the morning to look at the river. My son and I snorkeled with the manatees and after we had gone in to town to get our gear, came back to leave from the dock right outside of our room. So when we returned from our trip (which was great - came into contact with a lot of manatees), we got off the boat and walked into our room.
My husband and son rented a pontoon, right on the property, to go fishing. My husband said he should've just chartered with someone because the river can be shallow to navigate in some spots. I rented a kayak for a couple of hours and had a nice trip upriver, seeing dolphins (one swam under me), manatee, and eagles.
There are some good local eateries within a short driving distance or you can eat at the restaurant on the property and watch the monkeys on Monkey Island.
We also brought bicycles along, drove east into Inverness (15-20 miles) to pick up the 46 mile long paved bike trail. There's another 5 mile long trail about 20 miles north of town that will take you to the Gulf of Mexico.
We would probably come back, just for the quiet location on the river.

We stayed over night in this hotel while swimming with the Manatees in Crystal River. It wasn't the Ritz Carlton, but that's not what we were expecting. However, it was clean and had a wonderful ambiance on the river. we had a single room and a suite on the river. The suite was particularly lovely, with a bedroom and large living room with a fold out couch. You could also rent a cot for $10. I would suggest booking an upstairs unit as our neighbors were pretty rowdy and kept us up all night fighting. Sounded like they were throwing bodies against the floors and walls. We called security and they were there in a flash. No hotel can control people that can't control their alcohol and act stupid, but it was pretty annoying none the less. There's ton's of wildlife on property including Pelican's, Herons, Ducks, etc. We even saw a few Dolphin while paddling the channel in Kayaks we rented on property. We had 4 teenagers with us and everyone had a great time. Housekeeping brought extra towels and there was free coffee at the front desk in the morning. The front desk staff was very friendly and accommodating. We really had no issues other than the noise. We would go back again for a short stay. There isn't a lot to do in the area unless you own a boat or plan to rent one, rent a kayak or swim with the Manatee (which I highly recommend!) The colder the weather, the better the chance of seeing Manatee and enjoying an up close encounter. But beware- even with a wet suit, the water is COLD! Bring a jacket to put on after exiting the water.

Room Tip: Book a room upstairs
