“Perfect day out”
Reviewed August 19, 2013

Homosassa has long been part of our family vacations to the west coast of Florida and it is always worth the visit. Once you get past the now quaint 1960s entrance you enter a world of Floridian wildlife and animals . (With one honorary floridan hippo called Lou who was resident here long before it became a wildlife park, and was asked to stay). Over the years the walkways and animal enclosures have been upgraded so I always feel the entrance fee ($13 per person) is reinvested in the park. It is now stroller and wheelchair friendly. It's always quite busy - with many families bringing 3 generations to visit. The program's are well worth doing, but the highlights are the manatees who are the stars of the park . The park works hard to restore sick and injured manatees to health and release them back into the wild when possible . Well worth a visit

“A taste of Florida”
Reviewed August 14, 2013

Homosassa is a fair trek from the Orlando area but the Park, and in particular the staff make it a great visit. Entry to the park is best done by the gentle 20 min boat ride along the river from the main visitor centre.

Inside the park it is great to see close up so much native Florida wildlife, as well as Lu the honorary Floridian hippo. Great close up photo opportunities in particular of the birds including bald eagles, spoonbills and a great walk in enclosure for coastal birds.

The only disappointment of a summer visit was that the resident manatees were in a small enclosure covered in weed as protection from the sun, rather than in the main spring pond.

Well organised, informative animal talks, friendly volunteer staff. Well worth the trip

“Florida Beauty”
Reviewed August 11, 2013

Natural Florida beauty on the springs. A relaxing boat tour seeing wildlife and learning about the history of the springs. Manatees, alligators, hippopotamus, birds and many other animals. Walking through the trails and seeing all the beauty and enjoying a relaxing and educational day. Most of the area is shaded by vegetation. Which makes for a comfortable visit. The cafe has a variety of food. The gift shop is not too expensive. There is a learning center with the history of the springs throughout the years. A nice place to visit!

“A wonderful outing”
Reviewed August 8, 2013

This is a State Park and has a very natural setting. They have many animals & birds native to Florida. They also have a 51 year old Hippo left there by former owners. It was wonderful to see the Florida bob cats. Florida panthers and manatees. They also have Florida bears. The start of he tour is a boat ride from the Park building to the preserve, which is very scenic. We had lunch at the cafeteria and it was very good and reasonable. A wonderful way to spend a few hours for a modest cost . (Senior rate $21 for two people)
