I was there last week and also wish I'd had more time to be able to spend the proper amount of time at this wonderful little park. The manatees in the lagoon were awesome, a mother and baby swam right up to the underwater observatory almost as if they were checking us out as well! They actually have an injured manatee care center there along w/ all sorts of other wildlife. A quick tip, in addition to the entrance on HWY 19, there's a separate entrance right in front of the springs entrance. Park there and go right in so you don't have to wait for the tram or pontoon boat if you don't want to. Also, there's a 3/4 mile road that leads from the HWY 19 entrance to the park entrance if you'd like to walk. You can also get discounts for AAA or AARP membership. If you're in the area, definitely check this out!

This was an impulse stop on our Florida vacation and we were glad we took the time. We stopped in hopes of seeing some manatees, and were not disappointed. Homosassa Springs is a beautiful state park. The park is well maintained and clean. There are two entrances to the park, one off US19 and one on State 490A. The 490A entrance is actually the main entrance to the park and the US19 entrance is there to attract visitors from the main highway. A free boat ride from the US19 entrance to the main entrance is quite nice. I would recommend using the US19 entrance to enjoy the exhibit area, gift shop, and food concessions, as well as the boat ride. The boat captain was very informative regarding the history of the park and the wildlife. There is cost to get into the state park. With an AARP discount it cost three adults $31, our three year old grandson was free. It was a great time to be in this park since the weather was cool and it was not crowded. Don't be mistaken, this is a zoo. However it is skillfully built to blend into the natural habitat. Obviously, bears and alligators cannot be allowed to run amok in this very public state park. They do have resident manatees there which were visible to visitors. The highlight of our visit was seeing some wild manatees that had ventured up the river in search of food and the warmer spring water. (Note, its always best to make friends with the local folks when you travel, as it was on a prior trip that we learned that the chances of seeing wild manatees in certain areas is dependent on the seasonal temperatures.) We spent around three hours in the park and thoroughly enjoyed it.

We had a great afternoon at the Homosassa State Park. We weren't real sure what to expect but it was a great zoo style park. The flamingos were highly entertaining with a lot of other birds we don't normally get to see. We were a little dissappointed in not being able to see the Manetees. But the Hippo made up for it, if you see him backing up toward the fence - run away. We think it was a great value and would go back

We loved this and didn't allow enough time to see everything. Manatees were fun. We loved the 2 bobcats playing and chasing each other. We watched a Heron pick out sticks for his nest, fly away and come back to find another. The Flamingos were very noisy! This is a great value and good for the whole family.
