“Blue Water Beach Club is the best!”
Reviewed June 16, 2013

We stayed at Blue Water 19 years ago and found it it be even better this time. The rooms are very clean, well stocked, and best of the great view of the Gulf! The staff were all very friendly, informative, and did a wonderful job keeping the place lovely. Blue Water has chairs for the beach, beach towels, and umbrellas too. The pool area was beautiful and clean. The sand on the beach was free of litter and just gorgeous. Love the tiki hut on the lawn! The folks who stay there are very friendly as well. Blue Water Beach Club is a great place to bring the whole family! Thank you Dave and Larry for keeping the place so nice outside. Our room was comfortable and the bathroom was like a spa it was so beautiful. Anna Maria Island has so much to offer! Blue Water Beach Club staff have menus for the good places to eat and fun things to do! We will come back to the Blue Water Beach Club again!

We absolutely loved this place! We wish we could have stayed longer than our 2 night stay.

Staff:
The lady on reception (anna may?) was very friendly and let me have a hairdryer for our couple of days stay.

Rooms:
We had pre-requested our room (think it was no. 228) – it was second floor and second from the furthest rooms towards the beach. Yes the rooms were abit dated in an old school beachfront type of way but this is what I was expecting and I found the room and the white wicker furniture charming.

What made it for us was the view from our balcony – we would sit there for hours watching the sea and even spotted dophins on both days of our stay.

Location:
The beach was not as shelly as I was expecting from other reviews ie. I could walk on it barefoot.

We had our evening meals are Rod & Reel Pier and Hurrican Hanks. R&R Pier was amazing for location and watching the sunset and had a real rustic feel about it (food was great too). Hurrican Hanks doesn’t have the views but the food was really good.

Not much within walking distance so everything was a 5/10 min drive.

Overall:
The only downside was that the water supply went out for a couple of hours which was abit inconvenient – I’m guessing this was because of the renovations they are doing to a lot of the rooms which I guess is a positive in the long run. If you like a sleek and modern hotel room this place isn’t for you but if you are abit more chilled and prefer the views, quietness and proximity to the beach you will love this place. Even though I’m from the UK I would definitely like to think one day I will return to this lovely hotel and friendly staff.

Room Tip: Room 228 (near beach) was fab.

Dear LeedsRachael,

Thank you very much for your review about your stay at the Blue Water Beach Club.

I would like to apologize for the water interruption that occurred during your stay. We were renovating several bathrooms at that time and had a pipe burst while we were tearing out a wall. We had to act quickly in order to stop the water flow and also had to turn the water off the next day in order to repair the rest of damage. I would like to thank you for being so understanding and we will do everything possible to ensure, that this will not happen when you stay with us again in the future.

I will make sure to also share your review with my colleague Anna May. She will be thrilled to hear that you enjoyed the view from #228 and even saw dolphins out in the Gulf of Mexico!

Thank you again and we look forward to seeing you again soon!

Sincerely,

Sebastian Mueller

We stayed for a long weekend last weekend at the Blue Water. Its been several years since I've stayed there and I had forgotten how much I love it!! We had a deluxe room on the second floor that had a fabulous view of the gulf and the pretty manicured property. There was a great breeze on the balconey and it was very much enjoyed. Room itself was great - had everything one could need and was very clean. You couldnt ask for a closer proximity to the beautiful gulf!! Great little extras like nice beach towels, chairs and umbrellas for the beach, complimentary coffee and oranges in the lobby. Great helpful staff....cant say enough. They were especially accomodating to us as we had a very late flight the day we checked out and they let us hang out at the pool and the beach providing towels and a place to change. Thank you Blue Water Beach Club - can't wait to go back!!

We were in #228 for three days this time ... clean room with beautiful, inviting views from the balcony and, as always, a very hospitable place. Altho the A/C hum can be a distraction at first, it eventually becomes white noise -- and on warm, humid evenings is always very welcome. We have stayed at Blue Water many times and we highly recommend it if you're searching for a very clean, reasonably-priced, centrally-located motel directly on the beach.

Room Tip: Deluxe bedrooms upstairs have great views, but all rooms are able to see that turquoise gulf.

Dear baja463,

Thank you very much for your review on TripAdvisor. We are happy that you enjoyed your stay with us in Deluxe Bedroom #228. Your continued patronage in choosing the Blue Water Beach Club for your getaways means a lot to us!

We are currently replacing the thru-the-wall air conditioning systems with smaller, less noisy split air conditioning systems. While we cannot guarantee that #228 will get the new system before your next stay, just ask us when you make your next reservation, if one of the available rooms has the new system installed already.

We look forward to seeing you again very soon and, once again, thank you very much for your kind words. I will share them with the Blue Water Team!

Sincerely,

Sebastian Mueller

My wife and I began staying at Blue Water Beach Club in 2002. Since then we visit every year. Being at BWBC is like visiting family, and we have made many friends over the years from all over the world.

Most appealing is the very friendly and accommodating employees who go out of their way to make guests comfortable and happy.

Outstanding features are the heated super-clean fresh water pool, one of the nicest white-sand beaches in the world where you can walk for miles, shuffle board courts, complimentary coffee, cookies and oranges daily in the lobby, comfortable seating at umbrella-covered tables outside, beautiful landscaping, lounge chairs at the beach, complimentary beach towels, daily room cleaning and linen service.

Blue Water has become a second home to us, and we can’t think of a better place to vacation and rest than this gem on Anna Maria Island along the Gulf coast.

Dear bugleboy1952,

Thank you for reviewing the Blue Water Beach Club on TripAdvisor. We are thrilled to hear that our employees were accommodating during your stay with us and hope to see you again very soon at your "second home". Without guests like you to enjoy and promote our property, others would never have the opportunity to know about how great the Blue Water Beach Club actually is.

Thank you again, also in the name of the whole Blue Water Team!

Dear Sherryhernandez,

Thank you very much for your review. We are glad you enjoyed your vacation, even though you did not get to see any sea turtles hatch. The season for sea turtles to come onto shore begins May 1st and ends in October. If you stay with us during this time frame, ask us for more information at the front desk. We have a great organization called Anna Maria Island Turtle Watch & Shorebird Monitoring that posts updates of new turtle nests on their page almost every day during turtle season.
We look forward to seeing you again!

We have stayed here several times over the years. This property is located north of Mannatee Ave in a quiet section of this little slice of paradise known as Ann Maria Island. It is nestled between beautiful condos and literally steps from the sands of the Gulf of Mexico. There are no chain hotels here, only small motels and a few bed & breakfasts.

The property is well maintained and aways clean as a whistle. The grounds are immaculate and beautifuly maintained with a large grass courtyard including palm trees and a large pool. It is an "L" shaped painted concrete block (inside and out) 50's motel style structure (two stories). Parking is assigned and there are a few visitor spaces. The office is open until about 7 p.m. They will send you after-hours check-in instructions if you are arriving late.

There are several different room comfigurations. Some small apartments, some deluxe rooms with and without balconies. The inside of the rooms is white painted concrete block. Furnishings are white wicker of the cheap variety. Everything from the furniture to the bathroom fixtures is dated and worn, but works fine. We had a 27" flat screen tv in our deluxe room on the first floor, and free wi-fi. There were also sliding glass doors directly to a small lanai and into the courtyard just a few steps from the beach - very nice.

On our last two trips here (different rooms) the beds were terrible. The mattresses were cheap-o's when they were new a long time ago. The springs sprung and creaked every time we moved, and the box springs were all but collapsed. The bedspreads and linens were clean but worn and there were two pillows per bed. There was an extra blanket in the closet, but no pillows. And who wants to go to the (closed) office to get pillows at 11:00 at night.

They provide several beach chairs for guests use. These chairs are obviously the ones caught between poolside and the trash because they are not in very good repair, but get the job done.

They are currently renovating 5 rooms. From what I could see it appears to be limited to paint, trim and doors, but that's only my observation.

The room rate was a little expensive considering the above, and that we were off season (early December). The place was almost empty.

They could certainly increase guest satisfaction (and room rates) by updating and upgrading the rooms and furnishings. I have never objected to paying for a truly exceptional room. Motels are for the highway - single night crowd. This is a destination and deserves to be treated as such.

The only thing that overcomes the issues mentioned above is the location, which is perfect, and the cleanliness of the rooms and property. Before I go there again I will call to see if the beds have been replaced. Other than that we can live with everything else.

Dear EC2007,

Thank you very much for writing such a detailed review about your recent stay with us. We are glad you enjoyed the cleanliness, new flat-screen TVs and also the free wireless Internet.

However, we are rather disappointed that you were unhappy with the bedding in your room. We certainly understand that a good nights sleep is important to our guests, therefore, all of our mattresses are replaced on a regular basis. For many years, a local reputable company has been supplying us with quality commercial grade mattresses. All of these mattresses feature reinforced edges, improved inner coils, topped off with layers of foam.

You also mentioned, the condition of our 10 beach loungers which, in spite of recent refurbishing, show the wear and tear on the metal frames due to constant exposure to the elements. We purchase additional fold-up style beach loungers twice a year, and during your next stay, we will be more than happy to show you where these new chairs are located.

Periodically, a recap of guests comments are forwarded to the owners for consideration for upcoming improvements. I will make sure to include your concerns and suggestions.

Sincerely,

Sebastian Mueller
