DO NOT STAY HERE!

OH. MY. GOD.

This was the most horrendous hotel I have ever stayed at in my life, which boasts itself as a "resort." We felt like we "resorted" to hell... and here's why:

1. SERVICE. Upon arrival we waited in a check in line on a Thursday morning for 25 minutes. We told the representative that it seemed a very long time to wait... she just said "well...what are ya gonna do, right?" What we should have done was ran away.

You will wait in line at the coffee shop for at least 30 minutes for a latte. This is not an exaggeration, and they could care less.

2. DINING. The only restaurant that offers dinner (besides a deplorable sports bar) will cost you $400. Take an über for really great, upscale dining just a five minute drive away... wait... no I'm not going to give you any pointers; you really should not stay at this place.

The ONLY thing that is good is the breakfast buffet. Nice assortment of fresh fruit, and full breakfast that was thoughtfully planned and arranged. The waitstaff were consistently lovely and kind. Breakfast for 3 will cost you $100 a day. The manager walked around and said good morning to us every morning.

3. MUSIC. Do you love techno music that would burst your eardrums that starts at 8am and is so obnoxious that you cannot hear the person next to you? Well then this place is for you. Don't get us wrong, we are young, fun loving 30 year olds, but GOD DAMN we felt like we were at a rave... at 8am... with 4,000,000 screaming children.

4. POOLSIDE. There is one option for lunch, a seedy little beach bar called "Splash"... the only thing you may splash into here is a riding an epic wave of e-coli. And don't bother finding a seat, they just leave the dirty dishes all over, just push em' aside folks ... "well...what are ya gonna do, right?" Many hotel patrons ordered Dominos, so the pools are littered with pizza boxes and discarded crust. Luxury "resort" at it's finest, party people. You also cannot even see the water in the pools... there are so many people in there, it must be illegal.

5. THE BEACH. Just ...wow. It'll cost you $35 bucks a day. And you are packed like sardines amongst a plastic cup filled beach. There are no amenities or food service. I actually felt sad for the ocean having to wash up on the Diplomat's shores.

6. FILTH. Diapers, overflowing trash at the pool. Domino's Pizza parties... LUXURY.

7. GUEST ROOMS. Enjoy the view! We know the people before us did... because the greasy imprints of their foreheads are still there on the windows. Also they did not tell us upon arrival that the window washers would be working... so they saw me totally nude while changing. Happy vacation! Try to order room service... if you can read the menu that kids have scribbled all
over and were never replaced. We ordered a sofa bed and got a little cot that looks like they salvaged from an army barracks. LUXURY.

Just don't stay here. Disgusting and the opposite of luxury.

The hotel needs some updates, which they have begun to make. The place is clean but you can tell that the rooms are a bit outdated and the rug is old. The kids's pool area is great, the middle pool is like a sauna, hot/warm and the bottom pool is long and comfortable but everything has an automatic 20% gratuity on top of the resort fee. We had breakfast and we all had the buffet so we got charged 20% gratuity for serving ourselves the food and for having a waiter bring 2 juices and a chocolate milk. Its crazy to just keep tacking on the extra gratuity on minimal services.. The biggest problem is that they have outsiders coming in and out of the hotel to use the pool. The problem is so much that they have to issue wrist bands to keep people that are not guests from using the facilities but it does not work very well. Also, they charge almost $40 for valet??? are you kidding me??? you have to park across the street to pay $26??? of course a 20% gratuity on the 40.00 valet service... Too expensive for the experience.

I will start off by saying this resort is beautiful, it has a resort condo feel, very clean and housekeeping staff are friendly. They don't like to replenish bottles of water, I had to ask daily but they were always willing to give them. Check in was relatively quick but I can see how it could be the complete opposite if you check in when a rush of people come in. This resort is BUSY, we stayed over the course of a weekend and it can get loud and it is tough to find a place to sit in the lobby. If you stay at the bar make sure you are aware that tax and tip is added to every bill pretty much no matter where you go on the resort. IT SAYS SERVICE CHARGE ON YOUR BILL. Also if you question the front desk about this charge they act as though they dont know what it means. I GOT THE ANSWER THAT IT WAS A DIFFERENT DEPARTMENT AND THEY WERE UNSURE. Different dept? Is all one hotel. So stupid! If you are a smoker beware that you cannot smoke anywhere you must go to the beach or to the very front of the hotel, and god forbid you lose your lighter and need matches, if you do the front desk will tell you it is a smoke free resort and walk to 7/11. THE BAR HAS MATCHES!!! It is crazy! Depending who you encounter when you stay you will get a different experience. Overall this resort is great but do be aware there is a resort fee, which was kindly waived for us. There is a parking charge and the WIFI connection is not stable.

Room tip: Ask for ocean view it is worth it

I don't know where to begin....but first - 2 stars because the room was very nice and comfortable. We had the worst experience at this hotel this past weekend. This "resort" reminded me of Spring Break Cancun. Awful. There was a 45 minute wait to check in, their key system was down (okay, not their fault), the pool areas were a circus, there were even Hollywood police walking around the grounds! There are people walking around the hotel with no shoes on, bathing suits without a top, breasts hanging out - I'm sorry, but I don't judge and I am pretty liberal, but when one pays a lot of money for a hotel that used to have a lot of class, seeing low class people walking around with pizza boxes and coolers (!) - not even close to five star.

The valet service was a whole separate hot mess, OMG! We never ever have experienced anything so bad, no organization at all. The valet people have NO clue how to operate cars coming in and out. They use one lane for dropping off plus people taking out their cars. Every time we would call down, we were told "less than 10 minutes." WHY say this when our car keys were not even given to the valet driver?! On Saturday night, we waited for 40 minutes for our car! Someone told us yesterday their car was lost on Saturday night! There needs to be a better solution. And maybe a whistle might work (it does in NYC!) for the captain.

Unless you have kids, big party and looking for a Cancun/DR atmosphere, this is for you. But if you are looking for a chilled relaxing place with your partner this is not the place. No bueno!

The Diplomat is an outstanding hotel with many amenities. Though not inexpensive, you get what you pay for - a first rate hotel right on the beach with terrific rooms, great outdoor pools, and great bars. Note that there are no restaurants within short walking distance to the Diplomat, but within a mile or two (on Hallendale Beach Blvd) there are dozens of terrific restaurants.

Room tip: Some rooms on the side of the hotel have partial ocean views and are much more reasonable in price than can view rooms.
