“Some good and some bad”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 21, 2012

Not all bad, but not all good. Greeted and seated by a friendly hostess. We really liked the sorbet cleanser that they bring along with yummy yucca chips at no charge. The quesadilla appetizer was delicious. Service was spotty, we thought that maybe they didn't have enough staff to cover the large space. My meal, the steak pallomilla was just ok. The steak was over cooked and somewhat fatty. Very disappointing and I wouldn't order that again. The churros for dessert were very good. It was very warm and humid inside the restaurant and that made the floor slick and maybe a bit dangerous. Could have been from the doors opening and closing to the outside. I might return but its a pricey option for what turned out to be a up and down evening.

“This is not what we were expecting... you might look elsewhere...”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 27, 2012

First, let me say that we love Bongos at Downtown Disney. They have tons of options. Probably 100 different items on their menu. A tropical feel and sound that puts you in that mindset.

Though they share the name, that is where the similarities end...

This Bongos is going for the upscale folks visiting the casino. They have high backed white leather-like booth seats and a roof top bar. It seems like a club first and the restaurant is just an annoying activity that they have to do for the name. I mean, really, why do they need to have 3 foot flames shooting up from the glass window in the kitchen. Not a cooking flare up, it really is just a row of open flames for ambiance...

The menu probably changes, but the day we went they only had about 15-20 items you could order. The main items that we were craving were not even available. Strike one.

We went in around 6pm on a Saturday and the place was pretty empty. The wait staff was hit and miss. Strike two. They kept our water glasses full, but taking our order and bringing out our food was pretty slow. Our waiter disappeared soon after our arrival, so another waiter stepped up and helped us out.

The food was between average and OK. Nothing to write home about and definately not worth the price. $16 for an overly cheesy Cuban sandwich. Dry, flavorless chicken. Semi tasty steak, but it was tough and overpriced. Where is the Cuban flair and flavor??? Strike three!

The highlight of the meal was the end. Funny, but it really is true. They give you a sweet tuile (sp?) which was basically a sweet fried treat kinda like a giant fortune cookie. It was really tasty. It was also kind of neat that they give you the bill in a nice wooden humidor like cigar box.

I doubt that I will go back to visit this Bongos and I will call the two in Miami to make sure they are more like their Orlando cousin and less like the black sheep located at the Hard Rock Hollywood, FL.

Thanks and Happy Travels!

The atmosphere is hip but the food is fair and over priced.

“Great ambience and some unique touches”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 27, 2012

We enjoyed the food. It is pricier than most Cuban food but it's the ambience that makes it worthwhile. The live music began around 8 pm on a Saturday night, which added to the experience. They also present some unique touches to the meal presentation, which was nice too.
