My wife and I almost stayed in downtown SP, when we came across this B&B in the Rough Guide to Florida. We are lucky to have changed our reservation! Lori Rosso, the proprietor here since 2002, is very friendly and prepares a delicious eggs benedict or quiche lorraine. We stayed in the Key West cottage (#6) which was cute but the room was a bit musty and stale when we first arrived. It was a treat to hear the tropical birds in the morning, with a gentle bay breeze. Other than hearing two romantic cats in heat and watching a few ants crawl into the bathroom area, we found it to be relaxing and quiet. Free parking was a plus, as was the Backfin Cafe a short walk away. For culture, the Dali musuem in SP, 10 min. away, was superb. We loved both the Pass-a-Grill beach for seashells (15 min. away), and the Fort DeSoto Park, which had the nicest public beach (no high-rise condos in sight anywhere) we have ever seen (North Beach). We would definitely stay in Gulfport again, as an alternative to downtown SP. But if you have noisy or ill-behaved kids, you're better off staying elsewhere.
