“Very good steak house in the downtown area”
Reviewed April 16, 2014

The restaurant is very well furnished, and the atmosphere is welcoming. A wide selection of items that look quite interesting. The Steaks look excellent, and the Grouper that I selected was very well prepared. Extensive selection of very good beers. The prices are about what one would expect for this level of quality, but not too expensive. Plenty of parking is very close in a municipal garage.

“unreliable service, unbelievable food”
Reviewed April 15, 2014

We just came back from a 5 start experience at Mark's yesterday evening. The restaurant is pricey (about $100 a person if you have drinks) but makes for an exceptional evening out. Our server last night was wonderful as well, his name is Austin. Unfortunately the service is not always so fantastic. We came in on Friday 4/11 for some drinks at the bar. We had a party of about 6 and both bartenders were quick to make us feel unwelcomed. It was embarrassing as I have had many good experiences at Mark's and was taking some friends there for the first time. We decided to go eat across the street after the bartenders were so inhospitable. The bottom line is that while the restaurant is usually great, you can't take such an expensive chance that the service will be moody.

“it was ok, but not something I'd rave about”
Reviewed April 9, 2014

Went with a friend into Mark's on a Tuesday evening around 7. Got seated right away. Nice atmosphere, very comfortable for conversation. While looking through our menu, the waiter for the table next to us was going over the menu and specials. We eavesdropped and were glad we did. Our waiter gave a very, very brief description of the specials and left it at that. We enjoyed the bread and glass of wine and placed our order. Basically, we decided to share the grouper with crab, get a side of lobster mac & cheese and brussels sprouts and each get a bowl of the crab bisque. The bisque came out quickly and it was absolutely the best I've had. Crab in every bite. At just the right time, the entree and side of mac & cheese came out. The waiter said he would be right back with the Brussels spouts. The grouper was quite tasty and the addition of crab under it was a nice flavor. Mac and cheese was overrated, but ok. I wouldn't order that one again. We both LOVE Brussels sprouts, but they never arrived. The waiter checked on us just once right after we had a bite of the fish. We finished our meal without the sprouts. Finally the waiter came by and we told him we didn't need them. He said "sorry about that". He asked if we wanted a dessert menu and we did. I ordered the cheesecake and it was very good; my friend had the cream brûlée - it was like paste. Super thick. She sent it back. It would have been nice to be offered a second glass of wine, but our waiter, Nicholas, was either brand new and didn't know any better or he was trying to get done with his shift. For $100, I really expect more in the way of service and attentiveness.

“Steak and salt”
Reviewed March 19, 2014

I gave Mark's a try after seeing grouper with crab on the menu. My husband had a steak. The service was attentive, the bread was fresh, but I will not be the one to suggest going back. The steak was competent, but no better than what we do on the grill at home. The fish was good, but nothing unusual or special. My main complaint, however, was that the choice of sides was limited to mostly high-fat, salty ones. I like more balance than that. We were given a double serving of our side of Brussels sprouts with bacon, but did not eat the extra nor take it home. The sides were so salty as to be close to inedible after a few bites. Mark's must be aiming at older people who are loosing some of their ability to taste more carefully seasoned food. Other naysayers have mentioned the price, which is too high for the quality provided.

“Good but pricey!”
Reviewed March 3, 2014

Very good steaks, but you pay dearly and pay more for every side. A table of four will be $300 without drinks.
