We took our grand kids here. We first went across the street to look at the turtles and alligators in Lake Alice while it was getting dark. Once we hit dusk, the bats started spiraling out of the houses. The kids loved watching this display. Months later they still talked about and wanted to return. That says it all!

We love bats and what they do for our environment. We visited on a very cold night, so we knew we probably wouldn't see many emerge from the bat houses. A couple hundred came out and it was pretty neat to see them buzzing around the trees and heading to the lake for bugs. We'll come back another time when it's warmer so we can see the estimated 400,000 come out!

This is an old Gainesville attraction right across from Lake Alice. It is neat to watch the bats swarm out in the evening, but it does smell really awful near the Bat Houses. Def worth going once!

We went during the wrong time of year. According to UF, there is 300,000-400,000 bats living in those houses. The first night we were there, they had no activity as it was too cold. The second night was much warmer and they may have had 250-300 bats...

We love going to watch the bats fly out into the twilight. This is something we do every time we visit Gainesville because its just that neat. Rumor has it that there are over 40,000 bats in those homes. Before the bat show, walk over to Lake Alice and check out the Florida Gators!
